You are the second Brit I've seen splitting an English muffin with a knife. I thought it was traditional to use a fork. You get better nooks and crannies that way.

The English muffins sold in the USA are mostly likely crumpets, they are not dense or like toasts btw

No, we Brits do not call anything else a crumpet and English Muffins are American.

In the UK, they are NOT EVER 'English' muffins. They have been produced for over 700 years before those made in NY by Samuel Bath Thomas, who used his mother's recipe, from Britain. They were first made in Wales.

The English muffins I usually buy have lots of holes similar to a crumpets. That's why I thought they were similar

You did that english muffin dirty. You're supposed to pry it in half with a fork or your fingers, not slice it with a knife.

I’ve always known the English muffins to have bigger holes. Much firmer than crumpets. Crumpets are the bomb!

Don't cut the English muffin you squeeze it apart. They are different but in the US our English muffin you squeeze apart and there is holes on the inside of ours. The UK English muffin looks different than ours on the inside but the outsides look the same. I still prefer crumpets but the US English muffin looks better than that brand
