if you narrowed your definition of "shoegaze" to a gate plated reverb guitar dist with slow paced drumming and a drowned out voice in the mix, you are partly missing out and denying the variability of the genre. It's not a mere "subgenre" anymore, it has become an umbrella term for other styles of composition that still incorporate shoegaze elements, yo ass is living under a rock.
