I have had one of these for over two years, it is a good car and the acceleration is good for a 1400cc engine because it has a turbo. The only problem with it is that you feel every bump on the road and with pot holes everywhere it is not that great to go out in, very hard ride.

@@raenzoperformance9600 I've spent many years within the official Rolls-Royce/Bentley network and was technical manager for the world's only ever appointed coachbuilder where often had 90 cars with us at any one time. That role took me across the world so yes, I do know quite a bit about them. Oh, I also own four Crewe built cars currently. The date of registration does not relate to the spec of the car. The 1988 spec car is released in 1987, 1990 spec cars (Spirit II) were released in 1989. Your car lacks some of the details of the upgraded 1988 car. Cars were ordered months in advance so delivery of an earlier spec car can easily take place in the next year registration. Some orders were cancelled meaning the dealer would still be obliged to take the car that they would then have to find a buyer for, that's a difficult sell if later spec cars have been released because who would want the older one?

I had one in the same colour, really did not enjoy it at all, the gearing is horrendous, I swear it seems like the guy who designed the gearbox was from the north pole and the guy who designed the engine was from the south pole and they never met. The car has absolutely no torque below 3000rpm the only way to get off the line at a reasonable pace is to thrash it without mercy and use 1st gear as a driving gear. Yes the power and acceleration is there but in many ways I found it a slower car than the lower powered GTI, you have to be in exactly the right gear at exactly the right revs ALL the time, thats a horrible design limitation, every time I got it on the highway I kept reaching down to change gear but then I remembered I had run out of gears, the car will rev up to high speeds but its so horrid and noisy at speed. If a car is going to use as much fuel as a V8 then its probably just easier to drive a V8. I found the 180 to be reliable and well equipped but the ride is so stiff you can feel every ripple in even the smoothest road as a bone crunching jolt. It took me almost a year to sell it, they are worth so little now. Any time you see a 20 year old GTI 180 for sale with only 7 years of mileage you know its been off the road for 13 of those years with mechanical issues, people do not buy these cars to let them sit in the garage for years.

That straight turbo back ?
@raenzoperformance96006 ай бұрын
Hi mate i think the engine was very smooth and pulled a big car like this very well this car is a mild hybrid so it does have some assistance from an electric motor in terms of it being underpowered i wouldnt say it is but then that depends on what you expect from it 9.9 seconds to 60mph from a 2ltr diesel at nearly 2 tonne aint bad and tbh you dont feel the weight it pulls very well and fuel economy is fantastic. If your looking for brutal power then you need a 3.0d they are far more aggressive but the 2.0litre is more than enough for most applications so to sum it up i would say the car is very nice to drive it was more than what i expected from the kind of vehicle it is refinements are very nice and drive is very smooth and comfortable i wouldn't shy away from it without a test drive i think you will be satisfied aslong as your not expecting v8 performance.

If the mascot is lifted and the plate pushed down it will release and drop into the grill sometimes just moving the mascot to the side will drop it down its a safety device to stop injury i believe. You can buy a lockable cover for it from flyingspares.com for 125 quid so once the mascot has dropped into the grill the cover will fit onto the recess in the grill and lock it. I used to have one on a rr i had with a everflex roof but sold that car years ago

Love these, and owned a tuned/modded M140i for 4 years myself. I don't like the blacked out everything look personally, it looks too chavved up, and every man and his dog is doing the same thing. I prefer original cars, with mechanical mods, the sleeper look. For the money, they are great cars, as they have dropped to 15 grand for higher mileage examples, and there doesn't seem to be any issues with the B58 doing higher mileage. One thing I am worried about, is that these will end up like the Subaru Impreza Sti, and almost all of them will get ruined and thrashed to death, reducing their value, and you will see them on every council estate in the UK, slammed with a pops & bangs map. Another thing I realised in my 4 years of ownership, is : no matter how much money you spend on mods, the chassis is no different to any low spec 1 series, and even if you spend 15 grand fitting a diff, bracing, polybushes, better dampers, M3 arms to get more camber, wider wheels/tyres, etc, although it will be much better than a standard car it will never be close to a real M car. The B58 engine, and ZF8 gearbox are both unreal, and a bit of tuning to both, turns a fast car into a straight line missile. But, the ride/damping, the wobbly back end wiggle when accelerating, the cornering ability, the steering, will always leave you feeling disappointed, and lacking, compared to a real M car. I bought an OG M2 7 weeks ago, and although I feel I have taken a slight step backwards with the N55 engine, the M2 is on another level for steering, ride, damping, cornering, and balance. Absolutely night and day difference. The M2 also looks much nicer than the M140i too, and I know it will never drop in price to the low levels the M140i is destined to, and wont drop into the hands of boy racing chavs.
