Q: Can a picture of whatever, be uploaded to a grid of 6x8 square & each square represents a 16" block . Of course seam allowances & FPP pattern accomplished.

I had tried FPP several months ago and failed so badly that I didn't' expect to ever try again. Much more recently I found your tutorials and thought "Hey, maybe I CAN do this!". First try: quadrants not good enough to proceed, but encouraging. Second try: points of block not good enough, but definitely not a failure. My wife wants a Legit Kit as a wall hanging and it looks like I may be able to accommodate her wishes.

With complex patterns in EQ8, how do you handle grouping it when there are super tiny pieces... from what I can tell it doesn't let you zoom in while grouping... I've basically given up on EQ8 for complex blocks, and mostly work by hand (trying to learn inkscape, but that's a whole other beast)... I would love to go back to EQ8 for the ease of drawing and it auto adding seam allowance, but the grouping process (and it not saving grouping if you have to go back to change a line or something) is so frustrating... am I missing something in the software that makes it workable? or do you just put up with it?

When doing your cutting do watch out for bias direction?
@CrankyKangaroo
@CrankyKangaroo 4 ай бұрын
Great question! No, when I’m doing FPP I don’t worry about grain line. The paper, the batting and batting all act as interfacing to prevent stretching no matter the grain.

Stupid beginner question: When I match the pockets and skirt right sides, once the pockets are finished and everything is turned the right way around again, the raw edge of the pocket is still a little visible. Did I miss something? Maybe I did the ironing wrong? I managed to "fix" it by felling along the whole edge of the pocket but it looks a little off... any advice would be very much appreciated (although I understand that's difficult with only text and my explanation)
@CrankyKangaroo
@CrankyKangaroo 4 ай бұрын
Hi! There shouldn’t be any raw edges showing from the right side of the garment. So I’m wondering if the “oops” happened when you sewed pockets to skirt? Was that right sides together?
@LoopieLupie-p5u
@LoopieLupie-p5u 4 ай бұрын
@@CrankyKangaroo if "right sides" means the bright/vibrant side of the pocket fabric facing the outside of the skirt fabric, then yes, I think I did that step correctly. My dress is the same colour inside and out so I assumed "right" side in this case would be outside. Unless I actually mixed that up and did it inside because they're the same colour....hmmmm.

Is it rechargeable? Can it cut layers of fabrics?

For foundations, if you go to sections, you can choose sections which elements you want to group. You can then get rid of any pieces you don't want to paper piece. Accordingly, rather than making the block smaller to fit on the page, choose the center section as a group (as that is where the intricacy is). The side blocks are easily aligned without FPP. (I only recently knew that I could do this grouping thanks to a vid by Nancy at On Point TV--though clearly if I had read instructions I would have known!). Also, for those that like to use templates rather than random pieces of fabric for your FPP pieces, you can go to the templates section. Choose a wide seam allowance (.5-.6) to create templates to use for cutting your materials. I found that these settings were helpful, and if you honor the notches on angular pieces, it helps you stay inside your foundation lines when you set them. I recently tackled a FPP Pickle Dish block and found these features...I'm moving toward a New York beauty.

I love EQ8. I'm pretty computer proficient; however, I don't find the EQ8 program intuitive. However, for a small $ but larger time investment in the program, you can save lots of costly mistakes in your quilt design. It is feature rich, to include allowing you design your own templates/foundations and to import/export into other file types (pdf, svg). You can also import img files of your fabrics (and mftr sites often have the designer's portfolio of a fabric group), and experiment with how they look in your quilt design. Thank you for creating this useful tutorial for your viewers.

I’m truly amazed at the variety of fibre and fabric crafts at which you excel. Your retreats sound fabulous. Lucky you to be able to combine your love of travel with your teaching. I was invited to my FIRST (I was 70) quilt retreat in PA last year and returned again this year. Next year attending 2-the PA and another in the eastern U.S. I’ve always thought-or at least my conjecture-that today’s ‘trunk shows’ evolved from the times when our pioneers settled the land. Their soft belongings-clothes, blankets, etc. were packed in their trunks. Once they had settled in their new homes, the trunks had room to store quilts that were not in use to protect them from insects, moths, and small rodents such as field mice that may invade their homes. Thus the trunk became the precursor to the ‘hope chest’ that a young woman filled with the linens, quilts, etc. that she made over the years in preparation for her new home with her future husband. I recently saw a ‘trunk show’ on KZbin, where the presenters shared that women would gather for an afternoon tea. The hostess would lay out her quilts flat in a stack on a bed, and a friend would help her to reveal each quilt as she talked about them. I enjoy following your channel. Thank you, and stay well!
