Really amazing that Antheil could imagine this music and yet there is no way for it to be performed within the mechanical limitations of player pianos at the time. Thanks Paul, for doing all the work to make this come to life.

I think the point is, they know and did create "insert blank here" (its basically a midi box with specific input sensors. This ones got a couple of slidey-boys, some pad-skis, and of course the buttonaroos on top. I would pass on this if it were on the shelf....the kazookalele howeverrrrrr..... FYI i have no idea how i found myself in this. its been a rough day, later nerds

I would encourage anyone to seek out the After Bathing At Baxters album on one of the streaming services and listen to Rejoyce through some good headphones and focus on the interaction between Grace Slick’s piano, Jack Casady’s Fender Jazz Bass, and Spencer Dryden’s drums. If feels like they are playing from charts because the music is so intricate but being Jefferson Airplane the music just came together. Lightning in a bottle.
@paullehrman Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Cap. Yes, Baxter's is one of the great unsung (excuse the pun) albums of the late '60s. Get it on CD and listen to it loud!
@Cap6834 ай бұрын
@@paullehrman I bought Baxters while in high school and played it all the time on our console stereo. It really opened my mind up as to what could be done with the bass guitar. While I like the first four albums with Grace Slick, I think that ABAB is their most inventive. It was a great leap forward from Surrealistic Pillow.

THE most creative and powerful sampler/synth in history, period. I had it in 1995 when I was at highschool, my first serious key all my knowledge started with it, I defenitely love it <3 I've read about your beautiful job in sampling lennon material with s770 and then porting to k2000...absolutely a fantastic work. great idea taking advantage of vast capabilities like FUNs, advanced midi control of sampling parameters, multi layers program structure etc....k2000 ported to extreme, brilliant musical composition encountering engineering skills. It could be ported to new gen kurzweils, now they support 3 giga flash sample eprom, 32 layers for each midi channel, they don't sample anymore but import samples even from k serie....and with kdfx internal fx unit they deliver separate digital programmable fx per layer up to 32 separate fx unit....no double programs anymore required! xD

Thanks for your comments! Yes, it is a wonderful instrument, and I still use mine, not just to perform this piece, but for all sorts of gigs involving sampling and programming.

@nalejbank2 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul! Can you add links in the "Show More" section to the other songs re: the JBS you alluded to in this video? You seem to speak as an authority on the JBS, so I'm wondering if you have actually read "The Politician" wherein the author, Robert Welch, laid out his facts and analysis of Eisenhower and the several possibilities that might explain his dubious decisions?

The other song that rhymes "Mommy and Commie" is "So Long Mom, I'm Off to Drop the Bomb" by Tom Lehrer, our version of which is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4rPaoOeoLuhmaM There's another song in the repertoire that uses the same rhyme, which is the movie version (but not the stage version) of "Gee, Officer Krupke" from West Side Story. I make no claims to be any expert on the Birch Society--I just know the song and a little about their origins.

@@paullehrman kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKOkdqCepsl_fNU Tom Lehrer - We Will All Go Together When We Go I dug around a little and found this little jewel. Tom is quite the lyricist as well as a good singer. Whether one agrees with his "messaging" or not, I appreciate his talents as a musician.
