It was good because I learned a lot about the nature of the fells in the Lake District. Retrospectively, I wish I'd gone on and bagged Red Pike as well, but that's still there for the future.

A decent walk there Paul. We don't have to go full on all the time - nice and steady is a vibe to be going home with. Some navigation there but all good including the views of the sea. All the best. Mark

@@WyeExplorer Thanks, Mark. The only time I've ever been there, and the only time likely to. Closer than Dartmoor, yet takes much longer to get to!

Camping in a place so remote you can’t even see a house in the distance is a very special experience. Lovely to watch the walking group seeing the sun rise in this great video of their first wild camp.

Definitely a great experience for people new to this. Glad they found it enjoyable, and this was a good route. Did you get permission to camp outside the allowed camping area and in a large group?
@paulperambulates2 ай бұрын
We didn't get permission, and I must admit to having messed up in two respects: 1) We should have gone the other side of the wall, i.e about 20 metres from where we camped. I was aware that this was the boundary of the permissive camping area that could be used between the two court rulings, but assumed following the second one that this restriction was no longer in place. 2) Our party size should have been no more than six. My understanding of party sizes originates with the Ten Tors training I supervise, where the maximum party size is fourteen. I assumed that would be the general rule, but have checked, and for all other parties it should be six. Thank you for making me think about that, and I apologise to the landowner concerned. I can assure them that all other rules were adhered to, and that the only evidence of our ever having been there is the publication of this video on KZbin.

I enjoyed that immensley... it's a walk I have done a few timess and have walked other parts over the years. Grwyne Fechan is my fave valley and I have wild camped in there as well as up on the ridges. The walk you did I know as the Llanbedr horseshoe and I have done it both ways. arb Alan.

Happy to return Paul - that was a fabulous take on the forest. I haven't been back for a while but this has reminded me of what a great space it is. I especially liked hearing about the Inclosures and the eldest of the trees. They do leave in wonder. Interesting too to hear of your scouting and the kids you take out there. Yeah, forest navigation is challenging. Well, good going sculpture and all. All the best out there. Mark

Thanks, Mark. I'm going back there in a couple of weeks with, believe it or not, a group of scouts' mums. Lots of them have seen what their kids have done and idly said to me, over the years, that they'd like to do some walking. Now they've got together and browbeaten me into taking them, and teaching them navigation. I won't be filming that, though.

I thoroughly enjoyed that Paul. U camped up there many years ago with my dear late twin but we didn't take your route. It was great to see you approach Llyn Y Fan Fach ridge via the South East so to speak. A navigation challenge, yes. But what a great walk punctuated by the awesome sound of water. I love the water too as I do views like them mate. From the ridge epic. Well, the journey back was equally as good. great stuff. All the best. Mark

Paul the building remains on the way up to Sourton Tor are those of the old Ice works. You may have noticed a number of cutting in the hillside each would collect and pool water that would freeze and then be cut up and transported into Plymouth.
@paulperambulates Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Andrew. I've often walked up through those cuttings and wondered what they were for. The building was a real puzzle. It's deep enough underground to be an iron age excavation, but the brickwork is considerably more recent. That explanation makes total sense. Now I will be able to look very clever when I take the scouts up there in a couple of weeks time! I'm guessing the demand for ice in Plymouth was mainly to keep newly-caught fish fresh?
