Autosomal DNA! What is it? Where is it? How do you see it? Is there some kind of app that will reveal it? May as well be talking about the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow. Sorry, but it's like trying to swim in a bowl of porridge oats.

Actually I always assumed that Asian genealogy would be very difficult, but shows like Finding Your Roots have made me realize that, if you have a gateway ancestor, it can be extremely easy to trace several hundreds of years back, if not more.

Most of French genealogy resources that I would use are pre-1789, as almost all of my French ancestors left France in the 17th and 18th centuries.

First of all I would like to say to Tiffany that I am so sorry you got that response from your biological father.. It is sad that someone who contributed to your being here on earth treated you like this. I have had a very similar situation to yours except I was not brave enough to get on a plane and go to his house. In my case my mom was 16 years old and he was 26 years old. He was in the American Airforce and my mom was Danish. I don't know all the details but she became pregnant with me and either he didn't care or didn't know. My mother married someone else and I did not know for 34 years I am now 63 yo. I looked for years as well as it did not surprise me that the father who brought me up was not my biological father. I did a DNA test and was matched up with a first cousin and one of his children emailed me to tell be a little about my probable Bio dad. Then I heard nothing for a whole year. I decided to take another DNA test on another site and was immediatley matched with my Bio dad. I was so excited because the first cousin I had encountered on the other site stated he was alive and well nearing 90 years old. I messaged him several times and no response. Very disappointing. I was also ghosted by the cousin as well. All I wanted was to know about him a little bit and maybe a picture, but nothing. It is so heart breaking I know, but at least you were so very brave to go and see him even if he did't exactly welcome you. Good for you. I hope you are ok and maybe soon I will get on a plane too. All the best. Ann

On average, how long does a thorough research take of one of Indigenous mixed blood ancestry (Canada) and do you combine it with interviewing family members or living descendants to corroborate your findings?

Just so people know, it’s a good idea to remember how you or we pronounce things are different to how the people at the time would’ve said it. So it’s not Cross-er lough, it’s crush-er lock for the place in Cavan (Cah van) spelled Crosserlough. This is the added complication of Ireland being a place with a different language and the difficulty in constructing the English phonetics for Irish placenames and also names in general
