Great lecture! I just wanted to ask how is the G flat tone included in the scale as it has nothing to do with the main polychord that you used in the beginning. Is it from B flat minor scale? How do you decide the scale that you use when you're using polychords as a foundation?

As a drummer I desagree with your ADSR example. The attack of each drum is always short and immediate. What distinguishes snare and concert drum is the development of the sound. You can hear the hard attack both times in the samples. A sound engineer does not shorten the attack but rather dampens the sustain of the drum. The goal is to emphasize the attack. The example with the woodwinds also lags. The attack is adapted by the player to the musical situation. This is what distinguishes a sample from a human.

If you mean the 2nd staff of the 3rd bar, this is retrograde of the upper bar.

@@thesecretsoforchestration yes, because in first staff you have C# F A, also at timepoint 3 in the same bar. But in 2nd stuff at timepoint 3 A F C# an at timepoint 1 A F D.

As a timpanist I would like to make some suggests. Keep your parts simple. Don't write for timps like they are trombones with running pitch changes unless you are expecting a top professional will be playing your piece. Expect 80% of orchestras to only have student models and only 4 timps...32, 29, 26 and 23. Using the notes in the middle of the drums range sound better the lowest or highest note of the drum's range. Timps best shine when they are used in supporting role to add color with other instruments. Some composers who wrote great, playable and effective parts are Gershwin, Prokoviev, Hindemith.
