Very cool pick. It seems to work off and on like a tubular pick. I think once you get the feel of it you will have better results. Nice video.👍🦊

It's a pretty niche lock, I've never seen one "in the wild", so it surprised me to see a pick for one. Thanks for watching.

O wow you went ahead and got it.. interesting, must definitely be a practice thing as it seems to work really well sometimes. Haven't managed to get my one of your design on camera to date, only have so many attempts before my finger nails give up😅

I know once I got the feel of using a tubular pick, its kinda like magic where it usually works really quick. I expect the tolerances are more forgiving on these locks so the pick seems like it should work well. I think I may try to take it apart and polish it a little, so each set of bars can slide with less friction. The telescopic tubing could deffintely use handles/improvements. Other people have told me they have not had luck with it. Another pick option could be making picks 3 kinda like conventional hand picks for a tubular lock with flat steel, where the outside width of a pick matches up with the rings diameters.

These ratcheting style of steering wheel locks fell from favour. Not because of the "weakness" of the various key operated cylinders, but a quick smack on the end of the shaft with a hammer, and the ratcheting pawl would shear, thus collapsing the shaft for removal. Shimming the pawl also could be effective, but the original method was quicker.

I have heard that before. I tried it on another brand and could not get it to shatter, so I am guessing it was specific to a certain model. Could try on this one too some time and see. Thanks for watching!

Well worth a $. What an odd concept for pricing at a store! Surely everyone just waits for $1 day?
@knowthebird12 күн бұрын
The way it works is the store buys open or damaged boxes from Amazon and retailers in bulk, and basically dump those out for everyone to go through on Saturday. That first day they get new stuff, Saturday, everything costs $15 dollars. Then the prices go down, so Sunday is like 10, Monday 6, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 1, and then a couple days off to restock. I am not sure about all the exact prices/days, but that is the business model. They had a line out the door waiting for them to open on Wednesday.
@NIGBEE-lock-bothering12 күн бұрын
Oh interesting, thanks for that, never heard of that before. I guess once you are time invested you are going to buy something for $1 after queuing up whether you need it or not. 😊

I have the 1930s Scrappy bank here at our antique shop, I was wondering if you can help me find a key or teach me how to open this specific one with household utensils
@knowthebirdАй бұрын
RockymartShop on Etsy sells a replacement key for Bankers Utilities Co book banks that looks like it may fit you bank. That is the shape of key you are looking to find or make for your bank (if you have some files or a dremel you could try cutting that out of a steak knife).
Great effort and thanks for taking out the time to make this video. I have started work on a similar project which will use Arduino. Right now I am in the design specifications stage and am writing down the working principles and design requirements. The main difference in my approach vs all others available so far is almost everyone is using pulse oximeter alone and that too it's SpO2 reading which is neither adequate nor enough to be used in blood glucose monitoring (BGM). I plan to tinker with 940nm and few other IR LEDs and other biomarkers that can be collected non invasively. Rest of the approach is similar to everyone else, develop a database with enough sample points to create a model for future predictions. l will make it for personal use and maybe if someone asks for it, make it for them and guide them on how to customize it. I have a few suggestions for your work: - The first reading taken by the finger prick is the most accurate, all subsequent ones are not, so restrict yourself to the first reading. - The most accurate BGM is Contour Next, almost 8% MARD, exceeding FDA's 10% limit. - Ambient light throws off all readings while using NIR, write a code to filter out ambient light while taking NIR readings. - Use a dark thick black cloth to cover your fingers reader while taking readings. Last but not the least, I will write you an email a little later once I have some worthwhile things to share and discuss. Best of luck in your efforts.
@knowthebirdАй бұрын
Thanks for reaching out and the tips. I did get some more data recently, but have not shared the results yet. Essentially I am not seeing spectroscopy correlations others do. I suspect its related to not controlling finger positions and ambient light enough, but I am not sure. I would like to make a nicer model, and I also think ppg feature extraction could be more promising than spectroscopy. I will follow up with you more in email.
@knowthebirdАй бұрын
Also, to clarify more, I think the finger clamp being adjustable is nice for different users/finger size and getting good skin contact, but has the cost it can adjust signal strength/spectroscopy readings by its position on the finger (higher/lower, and finger swelling, possibly hydration levels). I suspect that could relate to why correlations were not as expected, but ambient light could also be a factor for sure.

Great tools making. Unfortunately you made the same mistake i did. Those are "fake" or bad copies of a squire padlock. The writing at the top "admiralty" is the give away that it fake. I will send you pictures of the inside. Only 2 levers and they are sloped. But anyway you are in the giveaway.

@@LockChuck One of these days I will get a Squire and try these picks on it. Thanks for counting it and congrats on the 600!

Grand attempt, well not even an attempt, i would call it a success, you made the tool but the lock let you down.
@knowthebird2 ай бұрын
Thanks, ya, in this case the tool was a bit of overkill, but I learning is occurring. I watched enough videos to see on some of them you can tension the bolt directly with a pin tumbler turner, and use a pin tumbler hook pick to lift the wafers. Next lever lock I see i might try that technique, and if the bolt just pushes open from some tension, I know its either just warded or probably damaged/seized in some way.

Sweet make either way my man. 💚
@knowthebird2 ай бұрын
Thank you. Tools seem decent enough, I will save them to try on another lock.
@paulg4132 ай бұрын
I think it might be broken, levers can sometimes get stuck in the open position or stuck together on old locks, also if its one of the copies coming out of Asia they can have pretty grim assembly inside that doesn't do a lot, you've got the theory down solid and kudos for making the tools on vid 👍👍
@knowthebird2 ай бұрын
Since I can see levers in there, ill assume they are not "for show" and they are stuck together like your mentioned, or some blocking metal has been worn down into a slope. Its kinda funny because its the second lock I thought was a lever lock i couldnt open, and then it opened really easy pushing on the bolt. Ill save the tools and see if I can try on another another lock of the same model one day.

I love the open source design. Goes hand in hand with Toool. What is the left button or the button in the first "o" of Toool for? Just a thought for the future, I'm betting the Arduino can be programmed for changing the led to green for the first open. But heck, you've done a really good job. Any changes would be icing on the cake. 😄😉

Thank you. The first button is kind of TBD still. Probably to switch modes/games one day. All the LEDs on this one are just red, but RGB or other colors is something we could do.

Idea for a single competition mode. Start on Lock No. 1 and track the time for opening. Then start the timer for lock No. 2 and so forth... Tracking the times one spend on each lock. Perhaps giving the cumulated time at the end as well...
