Stock engines don't need zinc after break in. There spring pressure is low and the rocker ratio is low as well. If you go with a aftermarket cam with higher spring pressure and or use a higher ratio rocker, then you're vastly increasing the pressure on the lobe and extra measures are needed. You're better off going roller at that point. When you wipe out one flat cam you just spent the money for a roller plus you had to do the work twice. All the best.

Should all coils have the same readings? for instance I have a Pertronix coil and I'm getting no spark
@TEN-TIMES-HARDER
@TEN-TIMES-HARDER 2 ай бұрын
so if you would like a simpler test, put a spark test (or screwdriver) on the end of the wire directly off the coil itself. you can take a jumper wire from ground, and touch it momentarily to the neg side of coil, it will spark as long as you have power to the pos of coil!!! if not, jump power right to pos side of coil and try again, if that works your coil is not getting power or you have bad ignition switch

so in the end it was a crank angle sensor?
@TEN-TIMES-HARDER
@TEN-TIMES-HARDER 2 ай бұрын
basically, its called A Hall effect sensor, but it was most likely the circuit wired to it, capacitors leak over time and they loose their capacitance, and it would in this case change the time or what not untill they just pop... and with the whole board covered in epoxy, there is no way to test and replace a simple 2 cent cap without damaging it... any electronice, caps wear out...

Definitely best engineered engines. My little 304 i have in my 67 1100b is fast, good little motor. Im selling it to a highscool kid to take care of, i got it when i was 17 and hot roded that thing for 10year solid, only had to change the engine out once and only lost the hood once, i recomend hoodpins if your gonna go fast but being so nostalgic i just could never drill random holes in the hood for that, not gonna happen.

Great tips on the video! Would the ignition timing be set this way with all engines? I'm in the UK and have a cvh engine. Due to a few changes in the engine bay it's not easy to see my timing marks. My engine was rebuilt a few months back and although it's running well I just get the feeling that it's holding back somewhere.

What carburetor would you recommend for v345 1603 short school bus or loadstar 1600. It has the Holly 2 barrel. Don't Holly warp? Stock or upgrade? Thanks
@TEN-TIMES-HARDER
@TEN-TIMES-HARDER 5 ай бұрын
it was the thermo quad that warped... Best carb to run on these engines is the Holly Truck Avenger 470cfm 4bbl. they are designed for truck type low rpm power. while you can get a larger 4bbl to work, its very tricky because any other 4bbl besides the truck avenger is designed to open the rear barrels at about 4,000 rpm, and thats the redline for our applications, the truck avenger will open the rears sooner so your actually using all 4 barrels!!! make sure you get a non governed distributor to work with the non governed carb!!! funny thing is most the 4bbl manifolds where dealer swapped off the loadstars and put on scouts so its very possible you should have had a 4bbl to start with! and the factory 4bbl where only 390 cfm but good luck finding one...

has it run to pump the lifters? as you see here ENGIN BUILD DIY 345 IH (part 1 of 2) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp7RfKabgLiFfJY the new head gaskets are thicker. so if you deck the heads .020" you are actually only like .007 and thats in spec for pishrod length the tappers can take +/- .010" difference and the tappets to adjust...

I have not primed the oil pump yet. But I would have assumed you wouldn’t want a quarter inch of play on the pushrods. On all the GM stuff I’ve ever built you are supposed to get a little bit of preload. Right now the rods are just barely resting on the surface of the lifters.
