God damn Charlie was killing it. I don't really think his voice fits well with metal not that Images and Words are strictly metal but his voice got a more 70's prog rock feel. He does hit those notes super clean though. If we got his skills with Labries gritty and powerful voice we would be on to a keeper.
@kungfuman824 жыл бұрын
I would kick a kitten if Russell Allen did vocals for just one song. I’d love to hear his style. Nothing against James LaBrie because when he’s on, the dude is ON (like on “Score”). People give him a lot of shit for his mistakes live, but JP has turned in some below-his-standard performances too and he doesn’t get near as much crap for it.

35:04 John Myung suggested the writing process that would be used for Distance Over Time. I think almost everyone can agree that the record is the best of the Mangini era, so JM was right
@jayg3395 жыл бұрын
I thought this as well. Its telling that mike has left now, and for their most recent(and one of their best records) that the band has gone back to the writing that john suggests here. Mike is looking at this like a job of touring and recording in the studio, but ultimately you could tell with the next few albums that this recording approach led to a formulaic outcome.
@PiterMorbid5 жыл бұрын
The best of the mangini era for sure. But I think that it's no match for any of the MP ones

@colinarndt34123 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was really interesting. You could feel the sincerity in John Myung's voice when he reflected on the past vs how they wrote music later on. ...and then Mike Portnoy makes fun of him calling it a therapy session. Sure there was some tension, because JM was suggesting the passion was gone out of their writing. So I can see the need to smooth that over. But I agree this seems to show MP's dynamic in the band and reason why at least a few of the members didn't beg him to stay in 2010.

This commentary really confirms my suspicion that John Myung is only playing a character (silent, reserved guy) when on video. I thought that privately, he's actually a goofy guy. I read one text interview in which the interviewer described Myung as a 'chatty' person which I didn't believe at first, but now I see that it could be true.
@gerben8805 жыл бұрын
i don't think he's playing a character per se, it's just that he gets more chatty when you get to know him better but stays very reserved in public
@MastersApprentice1234 жыл бұрын
If he is playing a character, he's been doing so since the late 80's, maybe even since he met MP. Which would make him a genius and visionary.
