The song is a lament and at the same time a protest against the turkish invasion in the north part of Cyprus taken place two years before the contest in July 1974 . Mariza is performing even knowing that her life is in danger. She is wearing a bullet proof vest because according to the authorities a turkish sniper could be around. So she signed that she would have performed by her own responsibility. 50 years later the north part of Cyprus is still occupied. Not a single tear was shed by the european- western civilization....

Why cut down the songs?

The UK was robbed and Malta should have been second to it but a concerted effort to get the original JLo to win as a writer saw Ireland with 'Why Me?' (a droning dirge that Johnny Logan refused to sing himself) and the whiney, injurious to the aural senses voice of the now shown to be a dreadful human being, Linda Martin, won.

This is completely unrelated to the Contest that year, but it just dawned upon me that it took place the night before Ayrton Senna's death at Imola in May 1st, and the day when Roland Ratzenberger died in the same circuit.

What a mess with the voting! So many mistakes and noone noticed except the Dutch guy 🤣! And the ending is just hilarious, the producer keeps yelling "Run the roller"! Something we wouldn't expect from such a powerful broadcaster like BBC.

Anna Vissi won the Greek national final in 1980 and the three persons accompanying her here were the band that won the 2nd place with a totally different song of theirs. After the selection the broadcaster had the idea to engage both the first two places, so Epikouri, the band, made the vocal crew of Vissi for both of them to sing the winner song on the ESC stage. A really nice idea for the time.

Could someone justify the fact that Denmark back in those days while they never voted for Greece they always voted for Cyprus????
