at risk of sounding totally stupid, this process allows you to take a color negative film photo (like a portra 400 shot), and print it onto a sheet of paper as a positive? i could be misunderstanding something fundamentally here.
@kodinamsinh1267
@kodinamsinh1267 6 ай бұрын
Yes, that is what it is doing. The paper is essentially a piece of paper with a film emulsion on it, so it works the same way as the film in your camera. If you expose it with a negative from an enlarger, it will invert the negative image and you end up with a positive.

Thanks, Scott! I don't know if you'll ever see my comment, but I can't thank you enough! I have been searching high and low on KZbin for a helpful video on this very issue. I am tasked to photography a public school's Class of 2001-2020 Framed Photos. They are digitizing them, and want to clean up the hallway walls. The reflection issue has been a huge one for me. Your tutorial here is the most helpful info on this very challenging issue that I have found in my last week's worth of KZbin surfing! Again, don't know if you'll ever see this, but THANK-YOU :)!!!! Scott, thank you for a truly excellent instructions on Home Made (DIY) large format camera, that I too have plans to make. Your instructions really have answered questions that I have been researching, specially the bellows and ground glass. I own two 4X5 1950's cameras and 1 1920 plates cameras, for which I have bought 4X5 x-ray film that I am experimenting with now.

@@scottwittenburg3530 It took a while to upload and process, but here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2jNpHylot9nd68 I like your video better than mine. I had a noisy, industrial air conditioning until next to my head. Your landscape perspective was much better showing the birds swirling around. And speeding up the video was effective.

@@UniversalDirt I like yours because you were able to get in closer to the action. I just discovered last night that the chimney swifts have suddenly quit showing up at the school. I think they added a grating or something to keep the out so they have moved on. I am SO glad I just happened to shoot my video before the show became history. By two days no less! Once in a while you get lucky!
@UniversalDirt
@UniversalDirt 4 жыл бұрын
@@scottwittenburg3530 Maybe the birds just moved south and the migration has passed your area. Hopefully the school didn't cover the chimney. If they aren't using it, that would be a shame. There's a video from a school in Portland where observing the swifts was a big social event, with hundreds of people of all ages bringing their lawn chairs and making a nice evening together.

Wow, what a great camera! I'm thinking of building a flexible camera system myself. One thing though, I can't figure out how to mount the camera to a tripod. May I ask what you did?
@scottwittenburg253
@scottwittenburg253 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Good question - I simply inserted a standard 1/4" threaded pronged tee-nut into the bottom of the rail. A longer coupling nut probably would have been better but I haven't had any problems with the camera holding fast to the tripod so far.
@MyPartytime69
@MyPartytime69 4 жыл бұрын
Scott Wittenburg thanks for your answer! I found an array of generic threaded inserts for metal, wood, and plastic. It looks like 1/4-20 is the size and thread pitch I need for the smaller tripod size. I wanted to make sure this part is secure, because much depends on a view camera’s rigidity, to not break and take a sharp picture under environmental challenges like windy landscapes, toddler horseplay, lack of common sense...

Carpenter to carpenter, you simply cut your material to your specifications, as for.the lense and shutter you can buy them on eBay or Etsy, but expect to pay around $230 dollars because they don't make them any more. You can also buy and old brass lense and simply use the lense cover as the shutter, this works best with x-ray film.that is slower. You can make your own ground glass too, there are KZbin videos on making ground glass, it easy but take time. Your other choice it to buy the ground glass on eBay, there is one guy that makes ground glass to your measurements and charges around $30-40 dollars.
