Quite a few omissions and misrepresentations in this rather “norwegian nationalistic” angle on history.

Crazy that seeing Grauballemanden numerous times as a kid was the reason for my disappointment at seeing the Egyptian mummies at the British Museum. Legit one of those 'never meet your heroes' moments for a kid that was crazy about Ancient Egypt. Turned out we got some cool stuff just about everywhere, at some point..

Hmm. Danes today tend to say to Norwegians: "You belonged to us!". It is of course historically incorrect, ignorant, stupid and offensive towards Norwegians. The double monarchy of Denmark/Norway was instigated by the marriage between Queen Margrethe of Denmark the first, and king Haakon the sixth of Norway and Sweden. And they remained in unity when Sweden droppede out of the Kalmar union. The king of Denmark, Frederick the VI sacrificed Norway to Sweden as a mean to get peace for Denmark at the end of the Napoleonic wars. Norway then made it's own constitution, fought a war with Sweden without any help from Denmark, and even elected a Danish royal to become the king of Norway. But in vain. A term for peace with the Swedes was that Norway would accept a Swedish king. Denmark betrayed Norway in those years. It was a shame. And Denmark betrayed Norway again in 1940 letting Nazi Germany using a willing danish country as a platform to atack and occupie Norway. But you know what? Norwegians are forgiving and still love Danes and Denmark. 👍 It"s probably for the cheap alcohol.😅

It is impressive and also touching that Americans of norwegian decent hold on to Norwegian traditions. Like Matt Groening who made a Simpsons episode about Norway years ago, and all these nice American-norwegians celebrating their Norwegian roots. I wish you all a happy new 2024. May God bless you all. With love from Norway 🇧🇻🇺🇲

My ancestors were hired by the king and moved from the Netherlands (Gelderland) to Copenhagen along with 3 other families of builders to help defend the Danish against the Swedish kingdom. They specialised in building star fortresses and after finishing the older part of the first permanent ramparts/citadel (Kastellet) gained nobility and knighthood and were awarded a lectureship award in complicated architecture at the King's University. We are still in Denmark, around 600 members of the former Wan der Borchs and the Bartholin branch of the family's.

Truly amazing. I left a comment in your stave church video. I love stave churches. When I visited the Open Air Musuem in Oslo a tourist in our guided vidit tour decided to lit a cigarette next to the stave church. My instictive reaction was to shout STOP before musuem.staff reacted. I cannot begin to imagine losing that building. Please keep up the videos. I am also intetested in learning more about other Norwegian buildings, for example, about the intricate walls painted inside some churches and houses some centuries ago. I am already planning my next trip to Norway. Warm regards from Australia, Andy

Where was this video before my first visit to Norway??? During my first visit to Norway I went to the Open Air Musuem in Oslo, as I previously visited the museums in Denmark and Sweden. Nothing prepared me for the beauty and magnificence of the stave church in the museum as I turned a tight corner in the path... Absolutely undescribable joy at seeing it. I didnt know what it was but I just knew its beautiful presence was going to be in my mind forever. I can still see it today when I close my eyes. It took my breath away!! The history behind it is so interesting and it captured my imagination to discover more stave churches in my next trip to Norway soon. I was so lucky to have a guide who spoke English and took a long time to passionately explained so much about this truly spectacular building and its history. I spent a long time in that building and I found it hard to walk away eventually. You are incredibly lucky to have this piece of history preserved. Warm regards from Australoa, Andy PS more videos please!!❤

As a New Zealander we also drink beer around Christmas. the only difference between you and us; we drink cold beer on the beach because it is summer time in the 'Down Under" countries in the South Pacific. Cheers to you all. Love your choice of music.

I would say something similar. I'm from Brazil and last two or three Christimas were "OK", like 22º or 23º, but usually the December 24/25 is really hot, something like 35ºC or more. So, drink cold beer is a necessity to not get crazy about the heat. And it gets worse because we dont have a beach here in our region. In fact, all my memories from Christimas are we spending it outside the house, trying to get some fresh air from the night wind. This difference in how we spend Christmas in different parts of the world is really interesting
