Clearly Ponga wanted to play for Queensland, and like the Pacific fellas, maybe he was second guessing if he wanted to represent his family, ie NZ. With the 'must play for Australia or non Tier 1 nation' setup, the average Joe could pick half the players in the QLD and NSW teams and still have a red hot Kangaroos team, especially when playing for Australia pays better than playing for other countries, keep in mind Ponga is on a contract where carrots dangling aren't as enticing, he can comfortably skip the internationals pay checks. I'm sorry if that pinches peoples nerves. It wont hurt the national side and actually improve the international quality if the SOO selection criteria is separate from International selection criteria. The Australian coach is paid decent dosh to pick the best Australian representatives. Big Mal's job wont be much harder if State of Origin had players that represent other Tier 1 nations. Maybe adjust the criteria for SOO again, it's been done on occasions previously. Take the initiative NRL, ARL, IRL, QRL and NSWRL, this will allow the International game to still develop rather than players having to stick only to Australia, or picking to play for Australia for the reasons that no one is comfortable to admit, money and playing for their state. SOO Reps should be separate from International Reps, this will improve the International and National product and potentially future Ponga scenarios.

Hope this happens , I can see the guys they have in that roster leaving if he’s picked up , most of those young guys won’t like Madge’s tough approach and it’s clear they’ve been babied for too long. The Broncos need to take a lesson from the Lions, Lost a GF last year, ran 5th this year and have just won the GF 2024. They have had the faith in the same coach for 5 years and got the just reward. 18 years since their last GF win speaks volumes that within the Club there is an underlying issue hot being addressed, the coach is not always to blame but he is an easy scapegoat.

Lo and behold, they are sitting about 5th or 6th on the ladder ( well in contention with the leading sides ). Then, along comes state-of-origin time missing KEY players and injuries to Game manager Reyolds ecet A series of long losses set in and team morale sunk to a new low. Bronx of old behind on the scoreboard and give up the fight. Teams put big margins on them. Confidence in each other and the team sinks to low depths. State of origin exposed many weaknesses, and nobody had any answers, and when you lose confidence, it's hard to get it back. Body language and facial expressions IMO before games reflected 😔 low confidence. Altho i dont blame the coach for this dramatic fall from grace. i do think when we needed Point espec after game 3 origin. Resting key players coz you think its too much of them was a pivotal point and got trounced by the warriors! Those losses at critical moments of the season when they were expected to win were the straw that broke the canels back. Most of the players and coaches played their star players during origin. I.e., Creighton for bulldogs. They are professional athletes that train for long seasons and rigours of a season. Again, just my opinion. But the wheels fell off completely during origin. And nobody had any answers 🙄 we kept hearing we needed to fix that ... but next week, the same sentence was repeated. They were out coached by rival clubs, out smarted, outplayed. They seemed to lack game plans for the side they came up against, and without strategy and planning, you get whooped and whacked.

I think the rule should be if you hit someone high and they fail the HIA then you can't come back on. But the team can bring a bench player on as a replacement after the 10 minute sin bin. So it's still 13 on 13. And both teams have 3 on the bench.
