Hello, when I try to acces the server, this error triggers: Connect to server failed; check $P4PORT. connect: XXXXXX: WSAETIMEDOUT, a connection attempt failed because the connected component did not respond correctly after a period of time, or the connection failed because the connected host did not respond. I've followed every step of the video, but, for some reason, it's not connecting with the host. What should I do?

It is *bananas* that perforce has managed to be so much more convoluted and so much less usable than git which is hardly an example to be praised. I've worked with over a dozen AAA game studios and not a single one has been satisfied with the level of support from perforce, the new features added in the last decade, the stability of the product or it's scalability. I appreciate customer solutions folks like the one making this video, but holy heck do they have an uphill battle describing the intricacies of this dumpster fire of a product.

No matter what I try I can't connect to a Digital Ocean droplet created with the Perforce marketplace image. The web console doesn't work and using putty just says "Helix Core is being configured. Try again in a few momemnts..." (including the typo). Any ideas?

Nevermind, just found through a comment on another video that you have to have one of the 2GB memory droplets, otherwise you just keep getting that message.

Where is the Command Line ????????? I am opening the P4.exe but it shows up then disappears Plus, there is no shortcut to open it from P4V or Admin Cannot make that Server ID Why do we needed to complicate things with this NASTY command line ???
@PerforceSoftware26 күн бұрын
Hi! How to set a serverid: www.perforce.com/manuals/cmdref/Content/CmdRef/p4_serverid.html. Right click on your workspace folder in P4V and choose open command window here. That way the environment variables are set to match what P4V was seeing. Then you can run P4 commands from there. P4 is installed and available from your command line all the time, not an app that is run seperately. If you need more help, just contact Perforce support at [email protected] or on the support page: www.perforce.com/support

Can you go deeper with the folder permissions? Can you specify certain folders within the project users have access to? Or assign only the dev folder?
@PerforceSoftwareАй бұрын
Yes, permissions can go all the way down to the individual file level if you need. One common example is allowing read permissions for an entire project folder but only adding write permissions to areas which should be edited by users. Or assigning write access based on groups. Hope that helps!

Hi! First of all, thanks for the tutorial! I’ve run into an issue that I haven’t been able to resolve on my own, and I was hoping someone here might be able to help. I'm trying to install Perforce Helix Core (p4v), but I keep getting the following error related to fonts: Error Message: "Setup had an error associated with fonts on your system. There may be too many fonts, a very long font name, or an invalid character in a font file name. See the log for details: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Temp\PerforceHelixCoreApps_20241003102331.log" Here’s what I’ve tried so far: - Deleting the FontCache files in Safe Mode. - Restarting the Font Cache service. - Checking for long or corrupted font names in my system. - Running the installer as administrator. - Testing the installation on another laptop, and I get the same error there as well. - Despite all this, I’m still stuck with the same error. Has anyone encountered this issue or knows what might be causing it? Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks again for the tutorial and any help you can provide!

Solved it by using the .msi file for installation instead of the .exe file, in case this is useful for anybody else!

Just a reminder for everyone deciding on a Workspace Name and Root: You'll run into the usual issues with file references. Make sure to account for what will break in different programs if multiple users have different workspace roots. Consider using relative paths, environment variables, or even standardized root directories (if your project can accommodate). Depending on what the root ends up being, your name will change accordingly. Ex: Workspace Name = Project_BillyBob_BB-DT-01 | Workspace Root = D:\P4W\Project\ (Simple root) vs Workspace Name = Project_Main_BillyBob_BB-DT-01 | Workspace Root = D:\P4W\Project_Main_BillyBob_BB-DT-01\ (Complex root) Hope this helps someone plan their topology-

Make sure to set up and save the ssh key. To set up SSH, select an existing key or create a new one from your EC2 dashboard. (More info here: docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ec2-key-pairs.html#prepare-key-pair) With the correct key, you should be able to connect to your instance. If you restore from an older changelist how would you make that the new starting point so when you hit get latest it doesn't just go through and re-add everything submitted after?
@JWitty182 ай бұрын
For example if I tried to merge two development streams but there were errors so I undid change and it deleted some branched files so now I am getting Clobbering errors ect. I just want to restore from the time before I tried that merge but then readd back all the submitted changelists after that without readding the merge attempt. Is that possible?
@PerforceSoftware2 ай бұрын
In that case, you'll want to undo the changes, rather than just getting an older revision. So in this case, go to the changelist you want to undo, right click and choose `Undo Changes In Changelist ####` then submit that new changelist. Now those undone changes are the latest, so get latest will get the files at that state now, allowing you to start back from that place with your new modification.

When using undo changes feature do note that you can't tamper the state of the file before submitting. So for example, if you want to do incremental changes from a prior revision, you'd have to commit the rollback CL first then checkout the file to do the next set of changes on head revision. This can have undesired effects when working with a team, for example of the latest version is still somewhat usable, but you have to move the file for everyone to the older version before you can make your changes and submit your fix. What we do instead is often get an older revision, duplicate the file, get the latest again in p4v to move it to head revision, then clobber the file with the copied older revision in Windows Explorer. This way the workspace thinks the file is a head revision and is working towards the next version up. This allows you to release incremental changes without doing a back 1 step then 2 steps forward as two separate CLs.
