Do you have a pattern for a border for this blanket? Or do you usually leave it as is with the wavy edges.
@handmadebystacyjАй бұрын
@@clarissaotto4508 - I personally like the wavy edges as they are with the stitch pattern. But, if you like a more squared off version, you can always play with doing a variation of shorter stitches leading to taller stitches, then back down to shorter to even it out.

Stacy, how does one keep the seam from shifting? I’ve frogged it a few times but no matter what I do the v seam Keri’s moving to the right 😢. What am I doing wrong?
@handmadebystacyj11 ай бұрын
I'm not quite sure where you're placing your stitches to create the shift. Are you seeing it in the body, as well as the crown? There is a natural shift of a seam when working in the round and it'll be slightly noticeable in the crown, but can be helped a little by where you place your stitches after the join. Try placing your 2 hdc in the same stitch as the join and that might help. For the body, there shouldn't be any shift of the seam, as it's all worked around the posts. I hope this helps!

What a gorgeous scarf! It's awesome that it uses fingering weight yarn. I have a few single skeins of various light-weight yarns that I bought because I was curious as to what the texture was like, and not a clue as to what to do with any of them. I have yet to work my way through your invaluable dishcloth tutorials so as to get more knitting practice, but I'm bookmarking this vid for when I have a little more experience. I'll be thrilled to be able to finally use some of these one-off skeins, and "no purling" is definitely a plus! I haven't done anything with cabling, so that'll be a fun challenge, and something I'm looking forward to learning. Thanks, as always, for all you do! <3
@handmadebystacyj Жыл бұрын
Awww, thank you. I think you'll be surprised at how easy this actually is to do. I designed it with those one-off skeins in mind (I think we all have a few of those). One suggestion, I know that you're working your way through the dishcloth series, but, maybe try casting on 24 stitches to make a little swatch using this pattern. It'll take a little practice, but I have faith in you that you can do it - just a thought :)

And yet of course I'm itching to get my hands into some yarn to unwind, but I hadn't quite figured out what to do, and then I read your comment. Stacy, I want to thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! Many years ago, I tried to learn to knit, only to find myself frustrated with the process. I switched to crochet, which I found to be much easier, and enjoyed making many projects (LOTS of scarves lol! This was in the days before youtube, so not a lot of patterns and tutorials readily available). Then life got in the way, as it often does, and I only recently got back into crochet after a 25-years-or-so hiatus. Now that I've rediscovered my love for crochet, I thought I'd try my hand at knitting again. KZbin introduced me to the Continental-style of knitting, which I immediately took to because of the similarity to crochet in holding the yarn in the left hand. But I was still struggling, particularly with purling, and then I came across your video. You demonstrate everything in such a relaxed and calm manner, and it's easy to follow along. After several practice tries, I finally commited to making this dishcloth, and lo and behold, I completed it! I have yet to wash and block it, but otherwise it's finished, and I couldn't be happier with the result. And what's more, I'm actually ENJOYING knitting now, and it's all thanks to you, and this tutorial. I love your teaching style; you're so warm and compassionate, and it's soothing to listen to you. Your instructions are crystal-clear, and your filming angles and lighting allow the viewer to easily see what you're doing. I see that you also have crochet vids, so I'll definitely be watching those as well, and I'll be following along with your other learn-to-knit projects over time. At 51, I'm a bit late to the crochet/knitting party, but better late than never! A huge hug to you for being you, and for making these videos; thanks for all you do! ❤

I had to take some time to respond to your message - you hit me in the feels and brought a tear of joy to my eyes. Thank you so much for telling me your story - YOU are the reason I do these videos! I remember also being frustrated learning how to knit (after crocheting for about 40 years) and the Continental style really called to me. Only, at the time, I didn't know "Continental" was even a style - I thought I just held my yarn wrong. After visiting my local yarn shop and asking them about it, they told me "It's not wrong; it's Continental!". I'm so happy that you enjoy the videos. Please keep an eye out during December, as I have quite a few patterns coming out this month (one is a beginner knit friendly infinity scarf). Welcome to the wonderful world of knitting (I'll warn you...it's extremely addictive!). 💕

@@handmadebystacyj I can't thank you enough for your presence on youtube, Stacy. Your tutorial is the reason I decided to not give up on knitting, and I'm sooo glad I stuck to it! It DID get easier over time. I must have watched various parts of your tutorial at least a dozen times or more, studying your hands and your technique, trying to emulate your fluid and seemingly effortless knitting style, your soothing voice and nurturing energy encouraging me along the way. One thing that also helped was a tension ring...have you seen those? I bought several from Amazon to try. They come in different styles and you can wear the ring on any finger; you thread your yarn through it, and it helps to control the tension. Tension was my biggest struggle with purling, especially using the Continental method. I was in love with the the knit stitch, but I kept losing tension on the purl, which was maddeningly frustrating. Using the ring made all the difference initially, and because of all the practice, I finally progressed to the point where I don't need it anymore and can do both knitting and purling quite comfortably. But early on the ring was an invaluable crutch and helped me tremendously, along with closely following along with your tutorial, and practice, practice, practice! I knit along with your video for hours, practicing the stitches and pattern over and over until I felt confident enough to actually make the dishcloth, and I'm so darn proud of that thing! I had been planning to use it in the kitchen, but I was reluctant to ruin it by using it to wipe up spills. So after I finally got around to weaving in the ends and washing and blocking it, I tried it as a washcloth on my face, and wow! I'm impressed by the absorbancy of it and the soft texture on my sensitive skin, so it's staying in the bathroom for now. I'm planning to make a set for both the kitchen and bathroom in appropriate colors, and I'll be following your subsequent tutorials to mix up the styles. I can't wait to get started, because you're so right....after getting the hang of knitting, it definitely is addictive! There's something about it that I find even more addictive and satisfying than crochet, and I never thought I'd say that, ever lol. I know I sound like an obsessed fangirl lol! But I am truly indebted to you, and can't wait to watch and follow along with more of your tutorials, both knit and crochet. I'm working on a few crochet projects atm, but after the holidays I'm hoping for some quality knitting time...I need my fix! :D Thanks again for being you, and doing what you're doing...you're appreciated more than you know. Happy Holidays! <3

@@witchywoman4139 - You are so kind! I've heard of the tension rings, but haven't tried them. However, I've been teaching a girlfriend of mine how to knit and may suggest that she try them. She just learned how to purl, so that may help her as she's learning. I don't know why I never thought of using the washcloth for our faces. I'm so happy that it worked out for you and was so soft. I'll have to keep that in mind for all the handmade dishcloths I have here at the house :) You know, it's funny, I'm in the same boat as you. I never thought I'd ever say that knitting would become a little more addictive to me than crochet...but, it has! Although crochet is still extremely enjoyable, I love the meditation that comes with knitting. And there's something about how interesting the stitches can be simply by doing a combination of knits and purls or adding in a little extra technique. I hope you have the happiest of holidays and thank you for bringing so much joy to me!
@witchywoman4139 Жыл бұрын
@@handmadebystacyj Aww! If I've brought you any joy, it's a small compensation for the joy you've brought to me, by opening up the wonderful world of knitting to me in such a patient, relaxing, and stress-free way. Mad props to you!! <3 As for tension rings, I bought all of mine from Amazon, and I'm embarrassed to say I've got quite a stash going lol. They were inexpensive and the metal ones were so pretty, I had a difficult time choosing between them. I figured I'd buy several and try them out, keeping my favorites and returning the others, but I ended up keeping all of them. They were just too cute, and I rationalized that some might be better for different types of yarns than others, so I've got plenty to use as spares, as well as some duplicate extras. I'd be happy to donate the extras to your friend or anyone else in your knitting circle to support the cause! As pretty as the metal ones are, I found that my go-to favorite is a plastic one by a well-known crochet hook company. I'm not sure if I can get away with saying the name without youtube flagging me for spam, but it rhymes with "toy." It starts with "b" rather than "t" and there's an "e" at the end. ;) The band is flexible rubber, and it comes with three plastic inserts for various yarn sizes. I've been concerned about wearing out the band from so much use, but it's held up just fine, and it's cheap enough to replace if need be. So that's the one I'd recommend to your friend to try out first, but again, I'm happy to pass on the extra metal ones if your friend or anyone else you know might have a use for them! Isn't that weird about knitting being more addictive than crochet? I can't figure out why exactly. I find both crafts to be meditative and soothing and both do wonders for my mental and emotional health. I can't say that I prefer knitting to crochet, because I love both. But when it comes to addictiveness, knitting wins hands-down. After a crochet session, it's easy to say, "I'll finish this row and then end for the night," and I do just that. But with knitting, it's always, "Just one more row...just one more...really this is the last one...ok, just ONE more..." lol! There's something so satisfying about it, and the enjoyment of the rhythm of it seems to build the longer you knit...but maybe that's just me. :) I'll definitely keep an eye on your channel this month, and check out your new uploads. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us...the infinity scarf definitely sounds intriguing! Thanks again for all you do, Stacy...you're a gem, and I'm so grateful the youtube algorithm introduced us. Maybe AI really IS intelligent! :D Big hugs! <3

@handmadebystacyj Жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for reaching out! If you were to slip the last stitch, then turn the piece and slip the first stitch, you would end up not working the edge stitch at all. So, the first stitch is slipped because the last stitch gets worked. Then, when you turn the piece, the first stitch gets slipped (the last one that you just worked). So, essentially, you're slipping an edge stitch on every other row. I hope this helps!
