I just learned the term, “thought terminating cliche”, today. Are most cliches thought terminating then?

I guess since clichés are saying or ideas that have been repeated (or overused) many many times, they are hardly ever thought provoking or meaningful. But I don't think all of them are thought terminating or used that way. For example, depicting a rock star smashing a guitar on stage is a cliché, but it's not necessarily thought terminating. As well some sayings like "I've got my plate full" or "I'm trying to think outside the box" are clichés and not necessarily thought terminating.

Right!? I guess it's good to have compassion for others. But it's also not very useful.

When I'm down, I dislike it when someone says "Other people have it much worse than you do". This doesn't make me feel better, on the contrary - it makes me feel worse, because now I'm thinking how bad it must be for those other people.

Oh yes... and it's even worse when it's other people saying it. It feels so dismissive.

My least favourite : "Everything happens for a reason,". The one I used the most (I don’t know if I like it or dislike it 😅):“ "It could always be worse"
