Presuming you wipe down after wet steel scrub ? Also if you knew you were going to not want the high sheen is there another product you might have used instead of the gel ??
@SusanMelrath2 ай бұрын
Yes to wiping down. The reason to use the gloss product is to maintain clarity and protect the acrylic paint beneath it. Matte mediums won’t do that as well.

What can you do if you accidentally put on too much wax? Can it be fixed? Even if it's been on for a month?
@SusanMelrath5 ай бұрын
The excess wax can be removed with mineral spirits. Apply with a cloth or towel, let it sit a minute, then wipe off with clean towels. Let it dry and harden again, and re-buff. See if that does the trick.

Good morning, I usually use 3 layers of wax. how many layers is this before buffing???
@SusanMelrath Жыл бұрын
I only use one layer, but the buffing would always be on final last layer.

I recognized your voice immediately from 2 years of CVP. I googled to see if I could use a buffer on canvas. So glad to know I can. Even a 20x20 just got me perspiring. Thank you!

Question - if you applied a layer and it shows brush strokes, can you add another layer to even it out?
@SusanMelrath Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure which product you're asking about? The leveling gel doesn't really hold brushstrokes, so you shouldn't have that problem. Soft gel gloss should be applied with a trowel, so no brushstrokes there either.

These are also available at hardware stores (maybe only where there is a cold season?) as foam tubular pipe insulation, with the side opening already slit or perforated. Not sure if they get discounted seasonally as well… guess that would be during the pool noodle months, so maybe one of the versions would be discounted at any given time of the year. Ha. 👍 Great packing idea!

Love this! Thank you Susan. Just listened to your podcast with Nick. Doing CVP right now and was wondering wth Leveling Paste is, haha. So far I've only used it to "glue" scraps onto my 3 boards, haha. Now I have a whole lot more respect for what it can do. So thank you! 💖

Hey Susan, can I apply the Golden self leveling gel that I have over some Windsor Newton Satin Varnish that I already applied to help smooth the many surfaces of a large 30x40 collage where the papers are slightly different thicknesses? Thank you
@cheryljefferson25023 жыл бұрын
If the self levelling gel sometimes cracks, why don’t you just use the soft gel only for the isolation coat? You produce wonderful, informative videos. I live in a remote part of Canada and do not have art classes around me so your videos are very much appreciated. Thank you
@SusanMelrath3 жыл бұрын
I’m glad the videos are helpful, Cheryl. I think soft gel is a great alternative but it does take a little practice to apply with a trowel. Give it a try on a test board before applying to your painting!
