Glad you enjoyed this one even with the rules hurdles. Thanks for entertaining me for a few hours here and there! It's a bummer the clarity issues on the VC caused an early end to it, but I suppose it's fitting. I'd say it sure looked like you squeezed everything out of it.

Agree on the cooperative play way of doing things. Jeff from @hex2hex and Mcmurray have played games this way and it’s fun.

Hey Mark! The rules leave more situations to interpretation than I'm used to but as long as you apply the same judgement whenever those situations arise there's a fun game here. Though I can't fault those who gave up on it, those situations can be frustrating when you run into them. It's a shame this wasn't more tight when released.

@_johnmaag

@@clarkcommando1983 For me they didn't. I read the initial rules before looking at the 3rd revision which was probably a mistake. When I started looking at the revision it started giving me more questions so I just decided to plow through with the initial as my reference.

I tried to play this one and, as noted above, found the rules very under developed. Things were not helped by the designers unhelpful approach to answering queries. He often didn't respond but rather said that any confusion in the rules was either the players fault or that he didn't want to clarify so players could explore alternatives. It's sad as I do think there is a good game hidden in there. The map and components, in my opinion, are great but the lack of development and poor designer support made it a big disappointment.

How can you even play this correctly with the rules as written? There are way too many special rules scattered everywhere. If one has a photographic memory, then OK. I started to make play aids for this but haven’t gotten back to it.
@_johnmaag
@_johnmaag Ай бұрын
The easy answer is I've probably never played any game correctly. The hard answer is yeah the rules are lacking. I've tried to show the basics in the earlier videos as I came to them but those are the easy parts. The parts I've come to that aren't addressed well in the rules I just have to make a logical judgement call, hope I play it the same the next time I encounter it, and move on. Believe me, I've had many fits of frustration. But I'm at the point where I'm just going with the rules as I play them. :) Thanks for watching!

Just now getting around to this.. Hopefully you can siphon thru the rules to find a good game. I need to start looking at what works for July/August for some League of Dungeoneers. Might be about that time to text ole Clifford and see what his schedule looks like.

I need to dig out my LoD rulebook and start refreshing myself. I have the latest rulebook update PDF that's part of the expansion Kickstarter but it probably would be best to keep with the previous since the expansion is still at sea. I feel like my LoD knowledge is non-existent anymore.

I spent quite a bit of time on this game earlier this year. To be honest rules wise it it as mess. Even version 3 has issues. It's obvious there was very limited development and play testing. You may want to use the adjusted Continental Recruitment table as well which fundamentally changes a key mechanic of the game. Quite incredible that such a major issue arose after the game was published. However once you have all the stuff there is a good game in there I think but boy is it a hard slog to find it - time I would rather have spent actually playing a game. YMMV but some people got pretty heated on BGG
@_johnmaag
@_johnmaag 2 ай бұрын
That's a bummer. Other than looking for specific rule clarifications I've avoided the heated discussions. I'm assuming you're talking about the revised Continental Levy Table that Gilbert posted? I am planning on using that.
@rhysjohnson1224
@rhysjohnson1224 2 ай бұрын
@_johnmaag yes that's the table I meant. I wasn't involved in any discussions on BGG but did read through a few looking for clarifications. With the revised Levy table, version 3 of the rules and applying a bit of common sense you should be good to go.

Nice, looked cool. It would be interesting to see how Dai Senso feels comparatively. What’s in the running for next game to be setup?
@_johnmaag
@_johnmaag 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I definitely would like to give Dai Senso a try. But one thing making these videos have helped me with is keeping some momentum in playing more regular than I had been. So I don't want to risk derailing myself because something overstays its welcome and I'm too stubborn to pack it up. The next game is setup and I'm prepping. Hopefully I'll get the rules digested enough to dig in next weekend. You'll find out when the first video drops.
