Are these M8 rods for your compression? If so, you need to apply 2.35Nm per screw to achieve the required 300kgf for the cell compression. 4Nm per M8 rod would be around 510kgf! Very nice boxes, Ross!
@sjdtmv
@sjdtmv Ай бұрын
Hi Andy, they are a M10 thread for compression, ( stranger cheaper to buy 3 meter lengths then shorter lengths a bunnings? which is a different thread helex angle to a M8, I am using nyloc nuts that gives me a drag force before the tension starts, 5Nm it is only a start point for tension, what I should be doing this using plain nut for tension backed up by a another pain or nyloc, I will look into that
@OffGridGarageAustralia

@@sjdtmv if it is M10, the necessary torque is even lower. You don't want to overcompress the cells which is quickly done with these sizes of rods and bolts.

I have some definite memories of relocating 2kW units full (with the bricks still inside) and it's somewhat strenuous work yes. Those weren't designed for easy dismantling, only the larger sizes were.

Interesting idea but I don’t think that you’ll get very good results because of the low efficiency and limited winter solar production. We warm the house with air to air heat pumps during the day time which are also quite cheap to buy and the house retains the heat to some extent once it gets darker. The air to air heat pumps have a cop of 3, or sometimes double that if it’s mild outside (above 10c). I warmed out our 45m squared room from 16c to 22c for 6 hours today for just 3kwh! We still heat our water with resistance heating though.

Ross I noticed over on a DIYBMS forum that you had been playing with LTO cells some time ago. Does LTO still feature in your Battery solutions? If not why not? I ask in that Im considering building a DIYBMS around the 40AH LTO cells for a home battery and if you've been playing with them for years Id like to understand whether they lived up to expectations or not? In fact I think that is what @ndudman8 is asking as well.

I still have my LTO bank, but at the moment I haven't gotten back to playing with it, the BMS in these 3 coloured 48v banks are a JK BMS 2a active balancer, when the cells get close to fully charge the volts move very fast, they are still within about 40mV, they never get close to 3.65v, I am collecting data on the MPP solar inverters by MQTT using some hardware and software from a GitHub site github.com/softwarecrash/Solar2MQTT

I have something simular with mpp 8k max's only 2 so far but planned for 3 eventually. Are you using solar assistant ? If you do then you can just use 2 usb cables into your pi and get all the data from the invertors, which can then be reshared via mqtt and used in homeassistant etc. I'm on grid, so use that as back up.

Very good! I think the heat shrink on the bars may be overkill from an insulation point of view (I'm presuming a 48V system). Practically and aesthetically though it looks very professional. What currents are you expecting the 50x10mm bars to conduct? I was thinking along the same lines...Aluminium much cheaper than copper.
@sjdtmv
@sjdtmv 7 ай бұрын
Heat shrink was to make sure that Pos and Neg bus bars are defined as Red and Black, something that you don't want crossed up, I am expecting up to 250 amps, that is based on using a 11kw inverter (still in the box) at max current, it may never get that high.

@MiniLuv-1984 7 ай бұрын
@@sjdtmv Yes for the heat shrink for clear unambiguous id. I will do the same. - I was originally going to colour code only the ends and the middle but following your lead is a much better approach. You should have minimal voltage drop with that size busbar. What are your thoughts on the terminal/busbar interface? Just torquing the bolts though the busbar and terminal is sufficient or are you thinking of "roughing" the mating surfaces first?
