Such a beautiful hymn: How sweet are the tidings that greet the pilgrims ear. This hymn is so full of Divine promise. Its hope makes your heart sing. I know that Jesus will return to this earth again. We just have to get ready. Oh what a day that will be!

Someone made the comment that Jesus does not compel because He is not a bully. I agree that Jesus does not bully us into following him. However, I recalled the parable of Luke 14:15-24. In v. 24, the parable uses the greek verb αναγκαζω which means to compel . In one sense it could mean to compel someone to act in a particular manner which implies force. In another sense it denotes to strongly urge or invite. Because of the infinitive εισελθειν (to enter/come in), the best translation of ανακαγζω is to strongly invite not to force. Thus, I would say that the meaning of the word compel in this song has a connotation of strong invitation not forceful bullying. Just my 2 cents :)
