Hi great videos. If I can just make a small correction to your commentary. You talk about Outwood Common and Glaston 2. Glaston 2 is the big N gauge goods yard that is under construction. Outwood Common is the station and Viaduct on the back. In your defence they were incorrectly marked up and no one noticed. Glaston 2 is actually mine not the clubs only Outwood Common belongs to the Billericay Model railway group. The Track on Glaston 2 is all hand built mostly by me.

I stand corrected many thanks for pointing that out, I am sure others will read your comment. Well done on the build and I love the way the two layout integrate. Apologies for missing the credit.

That is a very enemic whistle! TOTALLY WRONG to the point that its sacrilegious! It is FAR to British/European sounding! It is like a person being said to have a soprano's voice when he really had a deep bass voice! There are lots of videos of the real thing to hear the real whistle and models on KZbin that far far better represents what the Big Boy's whistle sounded like.
@dustyshelfcollectables2 күн бұрын
I totally agree I was trying to show how far the onboard sound has come from those early expensive sound chips.

Rivarossi did make similar 1850s-70s 4-4-0 "American" locos, (and a 2-4-0 "Bowker"), so I can understand the confusion; and they were better quality than thev1980s Bachmanns you have. However, Bachmann has retooled those locos and have improved the quality markedly. Also due to better research, the modern version of the model has a much more accurate livery, predominantly blue instead of red. And the generally accepted term is "cow catcher" (albeit "Bison" or "Buffalo catcher" would be more accurate). That terminology morphed into "pilot" by the early 20th century because on road engines they gotten smaller and trains were moving much too fast to catch them, more like obliterate them!

Thank you for the information, you clearly know the subject. One of the thing I love about doing the videos, I am always learning. Anyway thanks for watching and taking the time to message.

I never have visited the Penrhyn Castle, for two reasons one Stately houses I don't enjoy, & the other reason with so many better steam railways in north wales why visit a small interest? Ok would I have seen the Kettering loco at Penrhyn NO & now in Eire NO but might see the other locos now moved around the country, also most of the locomotives based at the Penrhyn Castle, are not part of the history of the area. But I will see one loco at the Middleton and maybe another soon at the East Lancs!
@dustyshelfcollectables3 күн бұрын
It was just the end of an era, and the locos will have a better future. You are absolutely correct about there being better steam railways in Wales. Anyway, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I have to choose, we have a very active exhibition calendar, so many clubs displaying in schools church halls and community centres. This weekend there were about 10 exhibition that I could have attended with a small drive, I manged 3. I guess in the US, town to town is a few hours, but in the UK 10 -20 Mins.

Hi Matt thanks for showing some of the engineering work being carried out on the Black 5. Very interesting. I wonder why they name the little shuttle train the Norfolkman when the line is in Suffolk? Would you happen to know what is the intention for the earthworks 37:00 between the main station area and the 7.1/4” line.
@dustyshelfcollectables5 күн бұрын
Not so sure about the earthworks, they lost some land recently and had to lift some siding track so I assume the track will be relayed there. I know thy have stock sitting in the station that is preventing a two train service. As for the Norfolkman, its a visiting loco .... or just lost.

I saw one of these on ebay a couple of years ago and took a fancy to it. I managed to get it for £25 mint in a box. The next one that came up on ebay - some time later - was not mint but sold for £60. They do seem to crop up only rarely and I would certainly like a spare one at a good price.

It is a bit late now but the later motor and housing will fit if you file off a couple of lugs off the chassis. The big advantage is they are a lot cheaper, cheaper still if Hornby has them in stock. A couple of years ago the bottom plates that hold on the wheels were like gold dust people were buying locos like your broken one just for the baseplate. A good purchase though the body is worth that.
@dustyshelfcollectables10 күн бұрын

Great coverage. You are right about the coal fired locos. I prefer a slomo to seeing then speed up and slow down all the time - and it makes than work harder when starting which is much more realistic - but that Garret seemed to manage without it.
