How to get out of one when it's inherited? You don't want to pay tax on all of it at once. So you are kind of stuck. You can max out your 401k and cash that amount to pay for it and it will be a wash.

We release new content almost weekly, so hopefully you are able to check out some of our newer videos. Great interview! I'm within a few years of retirement and recently thought about using immediate annuities as a spending floor, and such have discovered Panko, Pfau, you two and others describing what seems logical to me. Clearly I have more to learn and I am currently reading and will be looking into what I can find in the literature. However, my take is that I want a spending floor for all necessities covered, so I CAN feed my risk tolerant side, primarily because it's not just me dependent on the success of the plan. (I thought of annuities as bond replacements) Good work guys!

Joan, you are my inspiration. I am 61 years old with an awkward body shape... V shape. And just like you, for years until very recently, had a series of health issues. For many years I have been very self conscious of my body shape. I am trying to accept my self as I am and get motivated to do strength training to feel healthy. Listening to your story is giving me that push that I need. Thank you, so much! Keep up the good work!

So at 4:29 +/-, I guess your Reading this Article and it Says an increase of 124% from age 67 to 70... which is Totally wrong.. 62 = 30% less, 67 = 100%, 70 = 124%... Which Is Only 24% more than 67.. 8% more per yr...? Maybe Pointing Out Their Huge error would be helpful to Some ppl watching.

The analysis result depends heavily on the assumptions you use, e.g. SS Cola, inflation on expenses and the return on your invested assets. You could influence the outcome by changing these assumptions. I saw 2.75% Cola and 3% inflation used, but what investment returns did you use ?
@retirewithpurpose
@retirewithpurpose 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question, Bill! You are correct that your Social Security strategy will be highly dependent on the assumptions you use. We didn't focus on returns, as that will be something that is highly personal, but hopefully we accomplished the goal of the video to emphasize the importance of Social Security planning and the impact that can make on your retirement. Let's schedule some time to customize your assumptions! Schedule online: howardbailey.com/schedule

Incredible insight! That would be the next phase of planning as we begin to stress test the plan, amongst many other factors too numerous to include in a quick conceptual video. Hopefully, we accomplished the goal of providing some foundational education around Roth conversions and taxes! If you're ready to take the next step and dive deeper into a truly personalized plan taking into consideration all the factors unique to yourself schedule a free call with one of our fiduciary advisors.

This was a very informative podcast. It struck me that many of us, especially men, may be going through these phases on our own, while standing in the middle of community. I.e.6 friends all going through the same phases, but unbeknownst to one another because we don’t talk about it. What a waste of community. Thank you for this.

What is the expected return for the FIA with the GWBR ? And what is the cost for the GWBR ? Is this for FIA for both lives with return of principle ?
@retirewithpurpose
@retirewithpurpose Ай бұрын
We didn't utilize an expected return for the FIA, we only projected the guaranteed income provided through this tool. The cost varies by product, but usually is around one percent per year. The return on the FIA and the cost of the rider are important to understand when you utilize these tools, but for the purpose of this video we are solely focused on the benefits of guaranteed income. And yes, it is designed for both lifetimes, but the beneficiaries receive the remaining cash value with net growth less withdrawals. However, again, the focus is guaranteed income and if the goal is maximizing legacy, then a guaranteed income product is probably not the best solution.

I've watched her on tv, but she sometimes acts like you're going to live forever. You need to decide for yourself, but keep in mind, you'll make 8 years of SS from 62 to 70 before getting your first (larger) check at 70. Granted, the benefits are bigger at 70, but how long before you break even had you taken SS at 62, another 10 years?? Also, you can take your SS and invest it at 62 if you dont need the money immediately for basic living, maybe 9 to 10% per year? Also, if you take it at 62, you'll have it to pass it on should you pass before you get anything. Tough decision for all, but she leaves out pertinent information.

There seem to be a lot of important factors that aren’t being taken into account in this assessment? 1. The growth assumptions (in the first 2 examples) assumes no additional money is being invested during that 10 year period. 2. Social security isn’t be considered, which would likely reduce the needed $90k/year once they start collecting it. 3. Is the annuity being sold to this couple inflation adjusted because $90k at age 65 will have less buying power at 85 and even less at 95 if they live that long. 4. Do they have heirs that they’d like to inherent any remaining assets upon their death and does the annuity include an inheritance component? If you include these 4 factors in your analysis, would an annuity still be the best option for this couple?
@CaseyWeade-vw8bz
@CaseyWeade-vw8bz 4 ай бұрын
All factors considered it was the best option for them, although this is not a video designed to walk you through how to develop a comprehensive financial plan, but to illustrate a concept. Also, keep in mind that the best option for any given personal financial planning situation is just that, personal. 1. Assuming additional investments wouldn't be an apples to apples comparison. 2. Social Security is irrelevant to the concept being illustrated. 3. It is not inflation adjusted, but will produce significantly more income than the 4% rule and the average retiree will not be impacted by inflation like your average worker i.e. The Retirement Spending Smile 4. Remaining unspent annuity cash value would still pass onto heirs with gains less withdrawals, but if their priority was legacy they probably wouldn't have purchased a guaranteed income annuity.

I really needed to hear this podcast. I did not realize that all the non-financial needs & benefits of working a job did not automatically transition to this season of retirement. In fact, the first time I officially retired within 1 day I took a part-time contracting gig just to stay busy and kept those needs in the background for two more years. I had heard that you don't retire from something; rather you retire to something. So now I am officially retired for 9 months now and extremely restless. Fortunately I ran into this podcast and the opportunities that are available to me once I start implementing these principles and "discover my purpose." Thanks for this information. It will be life changing.
