@@lsb9881 in the beginning I offered as delegated services from attorneys in a variety of practice areas. As I scaled I went into an agency model and by 2021 was no longer doing paralegal work.

I've had a lot of luck with clients adding me as a timekeeper in their billing software. I'm able to easily track my hours and print reports for my own monthly income, and the attorney doesn't have two streams of client billing on their end. But this is definitely a "pay after" system.

Yes! A lot of my paralegals will keep their billing primarily in the clients system and then we take those hours and invoice the bulk entry total. Definitely efficient to not have to “double track”

My favorite thing was research and discovery, especially interrogatories when I worked for a litigated mortgage foreclosure firm. I've been in the biz for 16 years but the last ten years has been as a government contractor (SEC). I'm currently unemployed due to an out of state move. My spouse can sustain us with the bills, insurance, etc., but I want to be working. The problem is that I apply for jobs only to be told that as impressive as they might find my cv, the employer doesn't see my experience as a fit. That is what I am afraid of going forward.

Hi! I was going to message you privately, but then I realized my question might help others. I know you touched on this in the video, but I wanted to ask anyway. I'm going on 10 years with legal assistant and paralegal experience in personal injury/litigation. I never completed my degree nor my certification as it was a lot out of pocket for me, but I tried both. I work for one of the top firms in SoFL and have experience with 4 attorneys within my years. Do you honestly believe I need to go complete my certification to have something to my name to help the freelance career, or do you think attorneys will look at my experience and will take a chance? I was contemplating doing school first and then beginning my freelance career. I was also thinking about maybe trying the freelance path with your road map course and seeing if it works before spending 7k on the certification. I get nervous that an attorney might ask me for something, and I don't know how to draft it, but you did say everyone has templates, which I know is probably true. I would love your honest opinion. Hi Sam! Amazing question. To answer if you need certification to be a freelance paralegal, absolutely NOT. I didn’t finish college, have no certificate, no certification, and I was never asked for it by any of my clients. Further, now that I am in the paralegal staffing of employees and freelancers, consulting over 300 firms on their staffing, I’ve been asked to have the paralegal be certified once and only once, and the only reason was because the firm in CA did court supervised conservatorships and to bill out the paralegal. I am not saying certification hurts whatsoever, but it has never been a hinderance on my success. We all know experience trumps just about everything in the paralegal field. Go for it ♥️♥️♥️

Oh my gosh, I feel so defeated at times thinking I’m the only one in my career with ADHD, which I know isn’t the truth but sometimes one can feel that way. It was such a relief to hear that you both also have ADHD! It can be a blessing having such an active and fast brain, but it can also be a pain, as you both know. I will say though, a LOT of entrepreneurs and creative people have it, so we just gotta turn it into our own lil super power vs crutch, by figuring out what works and what doesn’t. I live in Minnesota (St. Paul). I am certified with over 10 years experience working in estate planning / tax, trust, and estate administration. I’ve worked for some Am Law 100 top law firms, as well as midsize, while starting my career within the small practice environment wearing many hats. I specialize in complex and high net-worth trust & estate adm, both in community and non-community property states (which includes California).
