We bought L/ExL online from Sarria, back in 2013 for our first camino in. Husband 6ft, me 5ft 2. Mine went down, almost to my feet, but I loved it. We took them on next 4 part-caminos, using for rain, wind or extra bed cover. What a good service, Ivar!

I have the ML Altus and I'm a 5'4" female. It's lovely and long. I use walking poles and can pull the sleeve down right over my hands while holding the poles. This means no water runs up my arms and my hands stay dry and therefore warm. It is big and baggy on me but this means there's plenty of room for air to circulate inside. I love that my pack stays perfectly dry, including the straps. When it's showery it is very easy to undo the front and slip out your arms but leave the Altus hanging on the pack to dry. (If it's windy I tie the arms together around my front then I know it can't drop off.) When the next shower comes I just slip my arms back in and everything is protected again.

I have been using a traditional great big black woollen cape, in fact I used it today for the rain here, but I'm thinking of getting an alpaca poncho for my next pilgrimage to Rome next year for the Jubilee. I sweat like heck inside artifial fabrics. I also doubt that you have anything in 4XL !!

THANK YOU, IVAR ... for going to the great trouble of trying them out for us to see. Very good video, Ivar👍 Comment to Altous (if they are paying attention) should have kept the original colours in addition to the new ones. What are those flaps in front? Pockets? Ventilation? Both are needed. I also did not think they are long enough.
@Ivar7 сағат бұрын
Will let them know (if they don't already read this). The flaps in the front are just flaps, maybe to have running water drop off? Not sure.

I'm glad to hear that one can still find the spirit of the Camino. The numbers of pilgrims completing the Compostela continue to increase. I compare the current numbers to my first pilgrimage and it's noteworthy and I confess was a bit concerning. This conversation eased my concerns. I greatly enjoyed this conversation. Thank you, both of you.

Hi Dave and Colleen, imagine my surprise seeing you on this video. It was so nice to meet you on the Frances last month, particularly during the lovely night we spent at Casa Susi’s. Great message and I wish I had those cards / QR code to hand out to ‘pilgrims’ from Sarria in 😂. I was flying home to Scotland on 30th and sorry I missed you in Santiago when I arrived 28th/29th. Good luck with this project and all the best. Graham, Dundee, Scotland.

I’m wondering if there could be a code of conduct that is shared with every credential and posted in Albergues. I am on my 4th Camino and will carry a bag to pick up old shoes and boots left on mileage markers close to Santiago. I’m so saddened by the trash left. I walk-in this week and I hope not to see some, but I will be prepared to help out with the trash.

I walked the Frances back in 2016, it was a great experience, the Norte and Primitivo 2018, decided to walk from SJPP to Burgos this year and noticed a big difference, seemed to be lot of people just walking with headphones on, not stopping to see things, had my food and drinks stolen from fridges at two Albergues, places I stayed at still didn’t cater for vegetarians, food served was very salty and undercooked, one meal full of splintered chicken bones was particularly disgusting, there was no bedding provided in several places not even paper mattress/pillow covers, people turning lights on, slamming doors, getting text beeps at all hours and alarms going off 4am. The overall experience was a bit of a trial, tbh I was glad to get to Burgos.

Thanks Ivar, informative as always and ditto re seeing the Square and hearing the pipes. You mention a September 'bubble' of pilgrims, do you have any indication of this happening this year or when? I presume pilgrims starting from SJPdP in early Sept. I am set to finish the Frances, starting from Ponferrada on 21st Sept.. I would consider an alternate route e.g. Invierno to avoid the bubble if needed.
@IvarАй бұрын
It usually happens when many start at the same time from SJPP. Normally in the beginning of September, related to a weekend and/or holiday. I have not checked the calendar to see when this might happen. If you chose to start from SJPP some time mid-week with no holidays that week, you might have a good chance to avoid this.

Thanks, Ivar! What feedback are you getting for the Portuguese? It seems the increase in pilgrims in one of the 3 Portuguese routes is greater than in any other routes. I will start in Lisbon in late September and I’m a little worried because the infrastructure always takes a while to adjust to the increased numbers. Thanks!
@IvarАй бұрын
Yes, the Portugues has been busier. I don't think you will see this before Porto. You might see it from Tui and/or Pontevedra... but by the time you get there it will be October.. so would not worry too much about it.

The Altus is referred to as a raincoat a jacket and a poncho, are the sleeves well defined? Ponchos aren't usually very good in the rain if you walk with poles but anything with a proper sleeve is ok. Ive been looking for one of these for ages.

regarding the camino Frances in September: you are referring to a couple of days where there seems to be a large bubble of pilgrims starting at the same moment. Do you have an idea which dates more or less? looking to do the camino in Sep. and wouldn't mind skipping the bedraces... Great update and video;)

It usually coincides with a holiday or the beginning of the month... or the beginning of the week. I remember seeing stats from the pilgrims office in SJPP on what day of the week most pilgrims start... I don't remember now, but it might be Saturday/Sundays... so if you can, think of starring mid week with no holidays. Buen Camino!
