What do you think would happen if I blocked off the pipe that brings air from the EGR cooler back to the throttle body, and mixes with air? I have my EGR disabled, but I'm hoping this would ensure the last 5-10% doesn't leak through EGR. Would using a blocking a plate for that air exhaust prevent airflow in that whole EGR system?
@DIY-VIDEOS2 күн бұрын
Since the engine is designed to recirculate some exhaust gas, you may end up with incorrect mixture and less efficiency/performance. Maybe it is possible to tune the engine accordingly but I don’t know how to do this. I would do this first before making such changes

Should have tightening the way valve heads are done, from the center out in a X fashion, prevents it from having a micro warp, specially with those seals.

Question here the high pressure fuel pump has the hose which goes to the fuel fitler, the other one, I think is much longer from the filter on top, maybe back to front think here, but on my one the fuel hose on my om642 engine seems to go under the mass air alloy pipe to the Turbo seems to go somewhere, where does it end up?
@DIY-VIDEOSАй бұрын
I think to the other one from the filter goes toward the fuel tank. Mine looks to go to front a bit but bends down over the left side of the engine and then back towards the rear of vehicle where fuel tank is
@normski262Ай бұрын
@@DIY-VIDEOS my one seems go to the fuel filter after stripping this area out.. Looked into it all, as the remap could not be done as the guy said low fuel pressure and turbo boost was not where it should be , too low or over boost. Not sure if this the reason for the problems, but, I found the hose to from high pressure pump weeps, but fuel filter hoses are not in good shape, and weep too, , and another is ot lookng to geat as well. regard the turbo, the mass air boot which goes over the front of the turbo seemed have been buchered by some mech in the past, and a little chewed up, the turbo itself is lookingin good shape, and clean. but the air filter box to turbo is not sealed 100% if right, I am banking on it being 99% of the reason the readings on the turbo are not looking so t happy. So we have new boot on the way, and hoses ..

Thank you very much for such informative videos! Is the sound around 20:15 normal for this engine? I just bought a Mercedes with this engine and thought there was some air leak in the system (no fault codes). The sound seemed like something is leaking air at exactly the same spot.
@DIY-VIDEOS3 ай бұрын
Yes, as far as I remember it sounds just like when we first bought it about 11 years ago. I think an air leak might only be audible if the turbo is spooled up and then probably only in some component on the high pressure side. But not at idle as it was in the video. On the low pressure side the main thing is that big orange seal and I don’t think you would hear a leak. I think the best evidence is to read the numbers with a canbus device. A high pressure leak should cause low boost pressure. Hope that helps somewhat. Thanks for watching & leaving a comment!
@LTLiudas3 ай бұрын
@@DIY-VIDEOS awesome! Thank you you very much for a reply. I checked the big orange seal as well as the small one coming from the CCV. The sound in question is definitely coming from the front of the engine but I suspect it’s just how it works. Maybe something to do with the egr system…
@DIY-VIDEOS3 ай бұрын
The metal tube that runs from the turbo to the front and down into the inter cooler heat exchanger in the bottom front number is the high pressure side. The high pressure air then goes from the inter cooler into the EGR return mixing body that also houses the throttle valve. From there, the high pressure air goes into the manifolds. All this is in the front of the engine. There are some sensors that mount in that EGR mixer/throttle body and various seals. If there is a leak I would think these would be the most likely places. But if you get good power and no errors I doubt there is a leak. Best of luck with it!
@markamd13 ай бұрын
I still would advise you to consider all pro and cons. New motor is not that expensive and the flaps improve low-end performance. So cutting the corners will hit you back, even you might not notice with with gentle driving. Had the same issue on W211 cars. They had vacuum engine management (darn pneumatic computer) and over the years unqualified mechanics bend, kinked, broke the fittings. So whole forum jump on the idea of deleting the system and have the engine running in default mode, instead of performance mode. All for saving some time to do it right and $5-10 on new vacuum fittings.
@DIY-VIDEOS3 ай бұрын
Well you should do what you are comfortable with. In my case it was the flap mechanism, not the motor that failed. It sells as one piece with a new intake manifold at over $1000. There are low cost aftermarket mechanisms but I didn’t want to gamble with those. Ironically I noticed an increase in fuel economy and available power after taking the flaps out. Probably because the valves were not opening and closing all the way. Around 30mpg in mixed driving, just about as advertised

It`s failure produced a massive water leak which went from a few drips to not being able to keep coolant in the engine at all in a week. This was om642 in Jeep Grand Cherokee which was a complete bastard to just get the turbo off.
