My first of many Land Rovers was a '65 Series 2 Martin Walter Dormobile. I scooped it up for $3,100 in 1975. That was quite a feat, and the most I'd ever spent on a vehicle. From someone whose restored and repaired dozens of Series trucks since then, I applaud the work done on this rig. Being severely OCD about my restorations, to complete the project, I'd suggest painting the horn button bezel black wrinkle, and reinstalling the oil bath air cleaner It'd win 1st.in it's class at the all British car shows easily. And meaning no disrespect, but DON'T drive with your hand resting on the gear lever. You will cause unnecessary and premature failure of the gearbox components. Brilliant job my friend! Also, having spent hundreds of hours behind the wheel, I used to think that 2.2 liter engine sounded exactly like a B-17 WW2 bomber at 2800 RPM when driving down the highway.

Most beautiful engine and gearbox sound. Grew up with a 2A, still remember all the hours we have been traveling through Namibia with our Station Wagon. Still have it and it is still on the road, but seldom take it onto tar. Nowadays it feels so wrong to have your children in the vehicle without seat belts etc, but as little kids we where just lying on the back seats when driving home to the farm late nights and listening to the whining of 4th gear.....

Very nice video, with no music which is great because we want to hear the car, engine, transmission.. please send some more. I've bought one of these fine machines.. their imperfection is what makes them legendary, yet classy & handsome.

How hard was it to learn to drive (and shift) a "Right Hand drive " Vehicle ??. I'm looking at one now, But kinda scared of the difference !! I live in the USA and only moved a right hand drive Vehicle years ago to load onto a trailer. And it was a automatic !!. I have a chance to buy a DIESEL CJ3 Jeep in Awesome Condition for $7000. But scared of the whole "Right Hand Drive" thing !!!

It might be a bit tricky to drive in a left hand drive country like the U.S., but other than that switching driver sides is a very easy job. You might mistake the windscreen wiper for the indicator stalk for the first few days, but it won't take long to adapt. For me as a left-handed person, it actually is a bit easier, as I can change gear with my stronger hand. Too bad we drive on the other side in my country. One thing to pay attention to in these old beautiful Landies is the unsynchronized 1st and 2nd gears, though. Double-clutch when shifting up or down, also provide a bit more gas in neutral when shifting down (to match the engine rpm with the ones required for the lower gear).

Cool video. I can't believe you did this without a video guy. That's alot of walking/riding back and forth to set/retrieve the camera. KUDOS!!!!!

Take your foot off the clutch as soon as you change gear.. If you leave your foot on just a little to "rest it" it is burning out your clutch.. But if you want to have to replace your clutch sooner, then keep doing it.. It is your Landy after all.. Nice as it is.. Very good job on the rebuild.. Cheers for showing us.. ;)
@Sandro27464 жыл бұрын
The clutch is cheaper than transmission/axle components. If you release the clutch abruptly, little backlashes at various points (it has a lot) will damage this itens with time.
