Solar panels can heat water through two main systems: solar thermal panels and photovoltaic (PV) panels with an immersion heater. Here's how each works: 1. Solar Thermal Panels (Solar Water Heating) These are specifically designed to heat water: Structure: Solar thermal panels consist of tubes or plates that absorb sunlight. A heat transfer fluid (usually a mixture of water and antifreeze) circulates through the system. Process: 1. The panels absorb sunlight, heating the fluid inside them. 2. The heated fluid is pumped to a heat exchanger in a hot water cylinder. 3. The heat exchanger transfers the heat from the fluid to the water in the cylinder. 4. The cooled fluid returns to the panels to be reheated. Result: The water in the hot water cylinder is warmed for use in showers, taps, or central heating. 2. Photovoltaic (PV) Panels with Immersion Heater PV panels generate electricity that can be used to power an immersion heater in a water tank: Process: 1. PV panels convert sunlight into electricity. 2. The electricity is directed to an immersion heater inside the water tank. 3. The immersion heater uses the electricity to heat the water directly. Benefit: This method allows PV panels to provide both electricity and hot water, but it's less efficient for heating water compared to solar thermal systems. Comparison: Solar Thermal: Direct heating, more efficient for hot water, but limited to that purpose. PV with Immersion Heater: Versatile (can power other appliances), but less efficient for water heating. In both cases, a backup heating system (like a boiler) is often included for cloudy days or high demand. The Ariston Kairos Thermo HF-2 200-1 TR is a solar thermal system designed for domestic hot water production. It operates on the natural circulation (thermosiphon) principle, where the movement of the heat transfer fluid is driven by temperature differences, eliminating the need for mechanical pumps. Key Features: Capacity: Equipped with a 200-liter storage tank, suitable for medium to large households. Collector: Includes a single high-efficiency solar collector with a gross area of 2.2 m², designed to maximize solar energy absorption. Installation: The "TR" designation indicates that this model is intended for flat roof or ground installations, providing flexibility based on building design and space availability. Durability: Features a 4 mm thick tempered glass cover tested for hail resistance, ensuring robustness against various weather conditions. Efficiency: The system is designed to optimize hot water production even under low solar radiation conditions, ensuring consistent performance throughout the year. This system is an efficient and eco-friendly solution for meeting domestic hot water needs, leveraging solar energy to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.

Can I switch this burner to work with diesel and what i need please 🙏🏻
@CommercialGasEngineerVideos
@CommercialGasEngineerVideos 8 күн бұрын
Switching a Riello RS50 or RS70 burner from natural gas to diesel (light oil) operation is not a straightforward process. These burners are designed to operate specifically with either gas or oil, and switching between the two fuels involves modifications to the burner itself. Below are key considerations: Steps to Switch from Gas to Diesel: 1. Check Manufacturer’s Documentation: Confirm if the RS50 or RS70 model supports dual-fuel configurations. Some Riello burners are made for either gas, oil, or both, but many are not convertible. 2. Change Components: Fuel Pump and Lines: Install a light oil fuel pump, filters, and piping suitable for diesel. Nozzle Replacement: Swap the gas nozzle for a diesel atomizing nozzle. Combustion Head: Adjust or replace the combustion head to accommodate the different flame characteristics of diesel. Burner Control Unit: Replace the gas control valve system with oil-specific components. Air/Fuel Ratio Adjustment: Configure the burner to properly mix air and diesel for efficient combustion. Ignition System: Ensure the ignition system (electrodes and transformer) is compatible with diesel. 3. Flue and Chimney Adaptation: Diesel combustion produces more particulate matter and sulfur oxides compared to gas. Ensure the flue system is capable of handling these emissions and meets regulatory standards. 4. Compliance and Safety: Verify compliance with local safety codes and emissions regulations for diesel operation. Inspect and certify the burner after conversion by a qualified technician. 5. Professional Involvement: Only a certified heating technician should perform the conversion. Converting between fuels is complex and may void warranties or create safety risks if done improperly. 6. Evaluate Costs: In many cases, converting the burner may be less cost-effective than replacing it with a model specifically designed for diesel. Important Note: Riello does offer dual-fuel burners designed for seamless switching between natural gas and diesel. If fuel flexibility is required, upgrading to a dual-fuel model (e.g., Riello RS series Dual-Fuel Burners) may be a better long-term solution.

Interesting about the debris in the combustion chamber catching fire with a wire brush, not heard that before. You would think if it was flammable then when the boiler is fired it would ignite anything at that point. Urban legend maybe?

Good answer. If the bypassing is caused by internal wear or damage to the TMV or mixer tap (e.g., a faulty thermostatic cartridge), installing a check valve alone won’t solve the root problem. I believe replacing or repairing the faulty part then installing check valves on both hot and cold might be a good next step to solve this issue.

What do you do need to do if the dial is at the end of the red. And what does it mean?
@CommercialGasEngineerVideos
@CommercialGasEngineerVideos 13 күн бұрын
If the pressure gauge on your boiler is in the red zone, here's what it indicates: 1. Low Pressure (Red Zone Near 0 Bar): This means the system has insufficient water pressure, which can prevent the boiler from operating efficiently or at all. Common causes include leaks in the system or the need for repressurization. 2. High Pressure (Red Zone Near 4 Bar): This indicates excessive pressure, which can damage components like pipes, valves, or seals and may lead to leaks or system failure. What to do: For low pressure, check for visible leaks and repressurize the system using the filling loop as per the boiler's manual. For high pressure, bleed a radiator to release excess pressure, or ensure the expansion vessel and pressure relief valve are functioning properly.

These are awful. Unfortunately I've worked on a lot of them. The heat exchanger gets scaled up, if you don't descale them regularly it will keep happening. You have to isolate the main taken bottom left then connect your machine from the non-return valve and disconnect it at the top and connect there. Manual describes how to do it.

Thanks for the tip, Tom P. I'll put some information about the DS40 cleaner below for those who want to know. The Fernox DS40 Descaler & Cleaner is a fast-acting, citric acid-based solution designed to remove limescale, magnetite (black sludge), and other contaminants from heating systems. It's particularly effective when used with powerflushing units and can also be applied to descale heat exchangers or boiler components separately. Key Features: Rapid Contaminant Removal: Effectively eliminates limescale, black sludge, and other deposits, restoring system efficiency. Enhanced Circulation: Improves water flow within the system, leading to better heating performance. User-Friendly Application: Supplied as a free-flowing powder, it can be easily introduced into the system via powerflushing units, feed and expansion tanks, or suitable dosing vessels. Exhaustion Indicator: The solution changes color from red to yellow when depleted, signaling the need for additional product. Comprehensive Compatibility: Safe for use with all mixed metal systems, including those containing aluminum. Neutralization Included: Comes with a liquid neutralizer to ensure the system's pH is balanced post-cleaning. Application Guidelines: 1. Preparation: Refer to the instruction leaflet provided with the product for detailed application steps. 2. Dosing: Introduce the powder directly into a powerflushing unit or pre-dissolve in warm water for application via the feed and expansion tank or a suitable dosing vessel. 3. Monitoring: Observe the solution's color; a change from red to yellow indicates exhaustion. 4. Neutralization: After cleaning, add the supplied neutralizer until the solution turns yellow, ensuring pH balance. 5. Flushing: Drain and flush the system multiple times with fresh water until it runs clear. 6. Protection: After the final flush, it's recommended to add a system inhibitor, such as Fernox Protector F1, to prevent future corrosion and scaling. Safety Considerations: Classified as a serious eye irritant; appropriate protective equipment should be worn during handling. Keep out of reach of children. For comprehensive safety information, consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) provided by the manufacturer. For more detailed information and purchasing options, visit the official Fernox website.

I diagnosed this issue as a blocked heat exchanger, and after advising the client to have it cleaned, the problem was resolved. I've noticed that these units can quickly develop blockages in the heat exchanger, particularly when the system's water hasn't been treated. In this case, I was aiming for a "gold medal" or a bit of recognition, as I wasn’t entirely certain of the diagnosis at the time. Unfortunately, acknowledgment doesn’t always come when you get it right-but when you get it wrong, you’ll definitely hear about it.

The Ariston Kairos VN 2.2 typically comes equipped with a flat-plate solar thermal collector, not a photovoltaic (PV) panel. I'm about to install an immersion element this week as when it's cloudy there's not enough water. Especially first thing in the morning. I believe it's a 200L unit. Planning to make a video of the install within a week. Let's see how it goes. Efficiency: The Ariston Kairos VN 2.2 is a flat-plate solar thermal collector designed for efficient water heating. Its absorber plate features a blue selective surface treatment, achieving approximately 95% absorption and only 5% reflection of solar energy, indicating high efficiency in capturing solar radiation. The collector's efficiency is also characterized by its optical efficiency (η₀) and heat loss coefficients (k₁ and k₂). For instance, the Ariston Kairos XP 2.5-1V, a similar model, has an optical efficiency (η₀) of 0.808, with heat loss coefficients k₁ at 3.131 W/m²K and k₂ at 0.016 W/m²K². While specific η₀, k₁, and k₂ values for the Kairos VN 2.2 are not readily available, its design and selective surface treatment suggest comparable performance metrics, ensuring effective solar energy absorption for water heating applications. It's important to note that the overall efficiency of a solar thermal system depends not only on the collector's specifications but also on factors such as installation quality, system design, and local climate conditions.

The typical van insurance excess in the UK can vary depending on the insurer, the type of van, and the driver’s profile. Here’s a general guide: Compulsory Excess Set by the insurer and mandatory for all policies. Range: £250-£500 for standard vans. It may be higher for young or inexperienced drivers, sometimes exceeding £1,000. Voluntary Excess Chosen by you when purchasing the policy. Range: £0-£500, though higher options may be available. Selecting a higher voluntary excess usually reduces your premium but increases your out-of-pocket cost in the event of a claim. Combined Excess Total excess is the sum of compulsory and voluntary excess. Example: £300 (compulsory) + £200 (voluntary) = £500 total. Special Cases Young/Inexperienced Drivers: Excess may start at £750 or more due to increased risk. High-Value Vans: Excess for claims involving luxury or specialist vans can be significantly higher, sometimes over £1,000. Windscreen Claims: Excess is typically lower, around £50-£100, or even waived with certain comprehensive policies. Tips for Managing Van Excess Check Policy Details: Different policies have varying excess amounts for different types of claims (e.g., theft, accidental damage). Excess Protection Insurance: Consider this add-on to reclaim the excess amount after a claim. Compare Policies: Lower premiums may come with higher excess, so balance affordability with practicality. Always confirm the specific excess amounts with your insurer before purchasing a policy.

Unblocking a toilet can be straightforward or tricky depending on the severity of the blockage. Here are some effective tips and tricks to help: 1. Use a Plunger Type of Plunger: Opt for a flange plunger; it's designed specifically for toilets. Technique: 1. Ensure there's enough water in the bowl to cover the plunger head. 2. Place the plunger over the hole and push down gently to create a seal. 3. Use forceful, steady plunging motions. 4. Repeat several times, then flush to see if the blockage clears. 2. Dish Soap and Hot Water Pour 1/4 cup of dish soap into the bowl. Follow with a bucket of hot (not boiling) water poured from waist height. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to loosen the blockage, then try flushing. 3. Homemade Drain Cleaner Mix 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar. Pour it into the bowl and let it fizz for 20-30 minutes. Flush with hot water. 4. Toilet Auger or Drain Snake Insert the auger into the bowl and crank it to break up or pull out the blockage. These are especially useful for tougher clogs deeper in the pipes. 5. Vacuum (Wet/Dry Shop Vac) Use a wet/dry vacuum to suck out the blockage. Remove any attachments and cover the hose with a cloth for a good seal around the toilet hole. 6. Enzymatic Drain Cleaners Use enzymatic cleaners designed for toilets (available at hardware stores). These break down organic material but may require several hours to work. 7. Wire Coat Hanger Straighten a wire hanger and wrap one end with a cloth to prevent scratching. Insert it gently into the toilet and move it around to dislodge the blockage. 8. Adjust Water Levels If the bowl is too full, remove some water using a bucket or cup before trying any method. 9. Flush Properly Avoid repeated flushing if the bowl is already full, as this can cause overflow. 10. Call a drainage specialist (If Needed) If none of these methods work, the blockage might be further down the line and require professional tools to resolve. Preventative Tips Avoid flushing non-flushable items like wipes, sanitary products, or excessive toilet paper. Regularly clean and maintain the toilet with mild cleaners to prevent build-up.
