Robert Clark Young Thank you. Did she Re record this later or use the title in another context?

Robert Clark Young Also, I’m sorry to bother you. Is the type writer and other rhythm sounds sourced from garage-band? This is such a wonderful song. Very appreciative of you posting it. I saw her play in San Diego and now I understand how Springsteen fan felt in 74 and 75. She can be meek. She can be humble. She can shred.

@@hwyisalive This song was cowritten with Oliver Paul Mestitz, who is the Oliver Paul of Elevator Operator. He's currently in The Finks. This song is from the era when she and Oliver were a duo--he played drums. I don't know the sources for the various other rhythm sounds. To my knowledge, this is the only recording, and the only song of this title. I found it on a British music site in 2015, paid something like a pound and a half to download it, and I made the video, using some of the few Courtney photos I had at the time..

Man, where did you get all those pictures? The only “young Courtney” photos I can find are some gems on her Last.fm page or eight-year-old Facebook posts. Where did these come from? Were you her personal photographer or something?

Gracias Javier - I just played around with it on capo 1 and think you can throw a quick Em into the chorus … a real simple, graceful song if you nail down the rhythm

I'll have to check it out... I was introduced to Courtney by the music channel at my place of work (Hard Rock Hotel/Casino), which has 'Avant Gardener' on the rotation; dug it so much I had to find it. I've been obsessing on it since last week. I think we owe a lot to the Grunge era, Suzanne Vega and the other Courtney, Ms. Love with her work with Hole. Belly, Jesus and Mary Chain, all the way back to Spooky Tooth. Don't forget Alice In Chains and Joni Mitchell.

You said you liked me at a party I said "oh well, um" Your flatmate was drinking whiskey You asked me to get you some I stole the key from your apartment So you'd have to come around Stuck balls of cotton to my sneakers So I wouldn't make a sound I disconnected the gas heating And suggested movie nights It got colder, you moved closer So I cooked us party pie And I did Everything to not let you know I like you and Everything to let you know that I was still around Like swapping chairs and coughing loudly Putting on your favourite song I'm standing hidden in the pantry Hoping you will come along Like tracing lines into a napkin To the shadows of your face Like dropping you to choir practice On my twelfth-year study break And I did Everything to not let you know i like you and Everything to let you know that i was still around Outside the party it was raining You were hailing me a cab I had a plane at 7:30 Rain was dripping down my back I'm pretty sure you said you like me But a bottle smashed somewhere You lent me your roadmap of Melbourne I pretended not to care And I can't Stop thinking about what would have happened if I Hadn't gone to Melbourne the day after your party Even though you didn't want me to I just want You to know theres still a spot left on my keyring just for you

This is on my CD! Excellent! I thought I was missing out. It's at about the 11th minute of the final track. It's particularly spooky because I listened to it in the car and so I hadn't fast forwarded through 8 or so minutes of silence when this riff started softly. Bought in Courtney's (and my own) home town of Melbourne).
