The moment of inertia, Ixx is incorrect. The corners of BCDE are accounted for twice, and the distance to the parallel axis for sections BC & DE are half the thickness of the wall too large. But I very much appreciate the shear flow calculations and explanation.

Thank you for posting this!! I’ve been struggling with this for a long time, two books, and couldn’t understand it till now. Of course my professor shows c-channel in class but no lips. This clarifies everything, cheers 👍👍👍👌

The shear flow distribution in I section web starts from 0? Shud it not start from a positive value and reach max at the NA parabolically?
@partheepanmvgrcivil40172 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct, it should not start from zero for the web at the junction of web and flange. Thanks for your comment.

shear flow should be at the center line of the sections and you calculated it on the outer edges
@8CoresOcta6 ай бұрын
The thickness is treated as rather thin. You can just get the method.

while finding H i think there should not be 48750V/I. It should be H= area of triangle+ area of rectangle
@partheepanmvgrcivil40173 жыл бұрын
I have done exactly that. Area of triangle+area of rectangle=area of trapezium . I hope this helps you.

@@tanzimhossain937 You see the video at 2:58. When he considered 150*6^3/12 in the first term then in the second term it should be removed some values. ok i give you the correct term Ixx = 150*6^3/12 + 2[63*6^3/12 + 63*6*(150/2-6/2)^2] + 2[6*50^3/12 + 6*50*(150/2-50/2)^2]

Hi, shouldn't the shear flow be the other way around? Since the shear force is pointing downwards.
@partheepanmvgrcivil40173 жыл бұрын
Hi Chen, Thanks for your observation. My understanding is that shear flow/stress are all internal forces developed within the section which opposes the external force.
@MC-sj8tp3 жыл бұрын
very well explained sir
@manikanta-kn2zq3 жыл бұрын
Sir The explanation is fine but, Don't we should consider parabolic variation of shear flow in vertical part U took triangular in second section
@partheepanmvgrcivil40173 жыл бұрын
Yes , you are right, it is a parabolic variation, since the lip is very small it can be approximated to triangular variation.
