FYI > Indiegogo can't pay me the money people donate to my project FELLINI DIRECTS AGAIN! because the murderer of the six million Jews Dr. John Gunnell and his side-kick Queen Elizabeth II who sent British Troops to kill the freedom fighters who were taking their sliver of land back after my father Nimrud Alexander CIA sine 1906 had the 1947 Resolution passed to make Israel a State where Jews can go to as safe-haven from the Holocaust years from 1939 to April 30, 1945 when my father shot Hitler in the head and sent his skull to Stalin as proof that it was Stalin's Red Army that defeated Nazi Germany and killed HItler. So now, Dr. John Gunnell the murderer of the six million Jews has already been convicted by Israel's highest court and awaits with abated breath to place him before the firing squad and executed. They are also waiting for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to face the same firing squad, but unfortunately because of her advanced age of 93 miserable years she's spent fooling the British people to think that she is not pathologically insane with hatred against Jewish dominance of the world monetary system. If you can support this project, you will be supporting the son of the Jewish producer Nimrod whose son and sole heir I am. I just want to make movies, but the haters of Jews must be executed if the world can live at peace by being tolerant to all religions -- Vic Alexander

Having been a lit agent & story analyst of 25 scripts a week at my prime, I am skeptical that anyone can read 20 scripts per weekend unless she reads 10 pages & if not sufficiently engaged proceeds to the next one in the pile.

Jon S. Alon More like she reads a page or two I guess. If nothing grabs by the third page, it goes to the trash bin. That’s the only way to look at 20-25 scripts in two days. Because out of that pile there will be some that will require more of her time to analyze if it’s a fit or not.

I am sure a foreign sales agent's definition of "great script" is different from that of a director, actor, or even something like blcklst.com. What are the distinctions? Also, how long have FSAs been entering the process at the development stage? That seems potentially cancerous to a project's integrity.
@danielclee1
@danielclee1 9 жыл бұрын
Armakk It may further be worth asking whether they know how to read a script? Not such a silly question, although bound to cause offence. Robert Towne: “You’re torn between wanting to fill in all the spaces and knowing that’s really going to screw the Screenplay. And yet how are you going to communicate it to people who really don’t understand the process?”

That old adage, "In Hollywood no-one knows anything." It's not true, as the one thing everyone does know is that they want last year's hit. Sorry, but this video has not answered the questions it set up for itself... like we don't already know it boils down to script (there are a million other places that say the same)... and the Producer's track record will get them the money's ear... like, durr!

Daniel Clee If I had handled this video/panel, then putting aside the platitudes let's get down to what's selling in the market, and there's an easy way to gauge this. How many film posters have the main character brandishing a gun? How many of these male, and how many female? How many gun-toting characters are set in space, wearing police uniforms, wearing cool labels (and therefore presumably the baddie)? How many characters brandish a sword, implying a story set in history? How many characters not brandishing guns or swords but instead looking wistful, implying a "heartfelt" drama? How many of these are male, how many female? How many posters have weirdos in painted, darkened colours, implying teen horror? How many have oversized, over-coloured, smiley characters, implying children's movies? Collectively, this lot probably adds up to 95+ % So all the gumf about "inspiring" script is like, so... yeah... and...? C'mon, let's call a spade a spade: this is an industry - and studios, camera rental, costume hire, etc., all need hiring and maintaining in business, which means inevitably there's going to be a lot of schlock made. And that's fine. But what's not fine is a panel like this making out they're looking out for inspiring, well-written scripts when clearly the results up on screen don't back this up. If the panellists had said something like, "Ok, we have to make a lot of crap because this industry needs to make money... and yet we do remain on the look-out for something special and innovative and most of all inspiring, because that's ultimately how we evolve and remain viable, although let's be clear, by nature of the beast it's a small window, and how we get through and choose from the millions of submissions hoping to clear this window is anyone's guess" ... then this would be an honest place to start.

Joe Clifford It will do you no good unless you have a great script and producer. Otherwise you are conning investors to buy into a worthless project.

@danielclee1 9 жыл бұрын
Jack Raymond Can you expand upon this, as although what you say would appear to make sense, in all practicality I'm not sure that it does. An investor either knows the film game or doesn't, and either way they have access to finding out the right metrics & information.

Daniel Clee Nadine said as much in her comments. Not that I agree with her. She speaks from a sales agent's perspective. Regardless of vetting a project in terms of funding and viability of returns, if the project isn't marketable (which she defines as having a known producer and great script - which means attractive to named talent - from her pool of five or ten marketable names) she doesn't find it worth her time.
@danielclee1
@danielclee1 9 жыл бұрын
Jack Raymond Thank you, tbh that's what I kinda thought the vibe was, which then means that we're not learning anything here that we didn't already know... "it's a great script and a Producer with a great track record," and for all these great idea web sites, fund groups, 'new ways of doing things', it still comes down to the money's agenda, which is making money, and that's cool. But to un-Byzantine the process means to stir up things with the gatekeepers (to mix metaphors), and that certainly has not happened here.
@jackraymond6596
@jackraymond6596 9 жыл бұрын
Daniel Clee Also there are a wide range of sales agents and distributors. Certainly many are looking for something less than the five or ten top talent names, and known heavy producers. But that likely means you won't see any profit, though they will get their percentage. That may work to help get your name out there. But your investors should be aware that at best, they'll get to walk down your red carpet. And there are always exceptions like Blair Witch. Also sales agents are good resources to check on your projects marketability and what talent or producer could make it work. Then you could go the route of redesigning your project to fit the market. Or your could look at self-distribution.

I am wondering what the service will cost for indies who give you their package to review. Specifically, the business plan (Production entity, producers, writer, director and stars) and the script. Obviously the budget is included in the business plan. What is the cost be to give us a "viability projection" to possibly include in the business plan to submit to investors to give them calculated information to hand over their investment dollars?

I am a fan of what you've done with Slated and your information platform. As a filmmaker with fiduciary duty over all of my projects, I would not be comfortable relying on this service based on what you've presented when faced with making business decisions. The sales numbers and business models change market-to-market and territory-to-territory, I believe any data older than 6-12 months is not relevant in today's market, what and who is "on" today will not necessarily be "on" in 3-6 months. Consumer behavior has become increasingly unpredictable as advertisers spend billions trying to homogenize their audiences. The point is that there are so many dynamic factors that are literally impossible to predict, especially based on historical data; films like THE ARTIST, 50 SHADES, AMERICAN SNIPER or the recently released SERENA, with the top of the "A" list cast, Oscar-winning Director, based on a best-selling novel that completely bombs in every way, straight to video with no theatrical release. How does your service factor execution? I have seen great scripts turned into bad movies and mediocre scripts turned into good movies. Cast is the most significant universal factor for valuation, but even that is rapidly changing. Predicting any performance of a film based on a script is unrealistic, utilizing quantitative data is very limited and qualitative factors are 100% subjective. Film is an art with a living, dynamic, constantly changing science, its success is driven by consumer adoption and pull-through, social media can make or break a film before it is released and no amount of money can change that. I don't believe in a "crystal-ball" solution for filmmakers, and this service may work equally against film projects by limiting their perceived value or even worse, overstating the projected value.

Albert, although cast is very important, we've found many other variables to be even more important, not the least of which is release pattern and P&A budget. Like studios we analyze hundreds of variables, which leads to countless permutations and combinations of possibilities. Data analysis to help predict outcomes of films is no longer in the real of science fiction. Studios know this, which is why they consistently post record profits despite having some flops. Universal Studios had record profits in 2013 despite not releasing a single franchise film. We believe providing independent filmmakers with some of the same insights Studios are able to garner will help. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/studio-profitability-report-whos-up-781672

filmonomics The studio business is rooted in Wall Street, global finance and a very complex system of P&L that factors 20-30 years of a film's life. Theatrical releases for studios have an entirely different set of business objectives than those of an independent producer, we can't survive on "studio" economics. Theatrical is a loss-leader for indies, nothing more than qualifying for awards and a small marketing campaign for home entertainment windows. Real P&A is not a reality for most independent productions. Thanks for the response though.

@hitnstrum
@hitnstrum 9 жыл бұрын
If you focus on cast it's quite easy to predict sales. Just look at the last three films the actor did in the same genre. Then look at the director. That's how the business has been operating since the beginning of time. There is no algorithm needed really... If you get Jason Statham in an action flick your film gets green lit because his returns are so predictable.

KEEP ME POSTED! Filmonomics. As I am a true believer in the expression of AUTEUR & ART. Meaning I believe you simply can not predict how a film may perform financially by in depth statistics & algorithms. There are just so many unknown variables & examples of films that using this analysis would have proven to an angel investor "NOT" to invest in "Whiplash". Unknown Director, First feature film, No Exploding Cars, No Robots transforming into cars, no spaceships, the list goes on and on. Whiplash was just a SIMPLE movie with COMPLEX CHARACTERS. Which is what the key FOCUS should be on. Another concern which gives me a reason to PAUSE is that only three people are going to make the final decision to make the determination whether my film will have a certain score? I would suggest 10 People WHY so many? for example when I do a Private reading of my short or feature scripts. I invite at the minimum ten individuals that are totally different in there point of views. Then after the reading I hand them feed back cards with specific questions. When I look at the feedback cards back home I am specifically looking for a common heartbeat, a common red flag from a majority. That I say WOW if 7 people feel this way about this, They must be onto something and I consider thinking outside the box and revising the script. I would feel more confidant about the number 10 than 3 people reading my script and in depth analysis. There are millions of people that will be watching a film theatrically or on VOD. I think this service definitely deserves more than 3. In conclusion I do like the game changer idea. I would totally be your first customer ;o) Hey anything to get me closer to Mr. Wall Street so he can ((( SHOW ME THE MONEY ))). Of course with the suggestions I mentioned.

At 0:44 you say "We know [SXSW] is a buyer's market." A buyer's market means there's a lot of supply (films) and little demand (few distributors); the opposite is a seller's market. Is that what you meant or did you mean that the fest has many acquisitions (or perhaps something else)?
