Interesting, but one thing needs to be said: there is a widely spread misunderstanding of the term ‘observation’ in quantum mechanics. The observation that makes a wave function collapse has nothing to do with (human) consciousness. In fact any physical interaction, e.g of a sensor in a measurement apparatus, or even an interaction between two particles can cause a wave function collapse.

Judith Butler's Whose Afraid of Gender? (2024) makes the case that "gender" has become a 'psychosocial phantasm' upon which various actors project their anxieties, fears, and desires; Bob's observation that pitches to accelerate AI often come bundled with scaremongering about other nations (28:30) suggests that "AI," too, now functions as a phantasm.

Thank you! Fascinating. I think this is very healthy. The idea of a God “becoming” is compelling. I feel it is still referring to God with form- which is always evolving, changing, and discovering. This fits with the name of god -Exodus 3:14 - which really translates to something like “I will be what I will be” These changes - at least in our understanding, always appear in awareness, and that awareness never changes. Behind all this evolution is pure awareness, behind which we cannot get - at least in this life. Awareness is pure existence. Of all these changes in God, we can still say that they exist. You can’t get behind that.

Being so conformed unto Christ that we begin to share in his own divinity. Thomas Aquinas called “Deification” in his works, becoming conformed unto God, it’s meant to be done though the Eucharist sacrament, if we don’t understand this, we don’t understand who He really is….Lord, to whom shall we go?

I am deeply skeptical regarding human moral progress. How do we master evil which lies so close at hand within us? I can will what is good and work toward it, but if I think I am thereby free of evil, I believe I am deluding myself.

I'm stealing "cognitive empathy". BTW, "openness" has its limitations when it comes to usefulness (I think :-). I'll stick with humility and work out its implications toward God and others.

"The act of telling the story", like observation in physics, alters (distorts?) the object. If there is a God (with a capitol 'G'), what God knows is beyond our knowing, except insofar as God makes that possible. That is a communion which transcends our individuality. Mystics think they've experienced it. But who knows, other than God? Bottomline: All our ideas about "God" are distorted at best and and dangerous at their worst.

Ryan, you need to know that the decline of religion in not you at all. I know of a book you need to read written by a social anthropologist in 1934. Dr. J. D. Unwin was a tenured professor at Oxford and Cambridge. His ground breaking study has never been equaled. Not only does it show why religion is shrinking, but it will also out line the collapse of our economy and the government which are all being affected by the same cause. The name of the book is quit a misnomer, but it is an unprecedented study on society trends. The book is called Sex and Culture.

Great episode, especially nice to hear someone from BC! I found the concept of "technique" to be really interesting and have mentally tried to pigtail in Jame Gee's concept of semiotic domains (modalities and design grammar) to further contextualize Ellul's what drives technique. I think there's something to be said about the shifting of a design grammar's methods and how it would effect the technique of a larger system.

No. A whole new liturgy won’t do. The very idea and practices of liturgy itself is so much a part of the problematic civilisation. Sunday morning is a very intrinsic part of that same civilisation. Many of us who have detoxified our relationship with the transcendent by dropping all dogma and theology have long ceased to practice religion in any formal way. We pray and meditate. We fellowship, often in the wild, sometimes in ancient places, thin places, sacralised or sanctified by prayers. But to formally codify a faith, however new and emerging, would merely be to fall back into the trap of creating yet another damn religion.

"Why don't you decide for yourself what is right?" - JC The biblical prophet Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies:. "Homebrewed Christianity." I like that title. But at first listen, I fear you've had too much "schooling," which can be difficult to overcome. Because, Christian schooling is largely based on the false BAD NEWS Pauline "gospel" of JUDGMENT and SACRIFICE. Nonetheless, even a PhD can be overcome by a wise man who simply reads "the words in red" and thinks for himself. Intelligence without wisdom is a boat without water. But wisdom - a gift from GOD - cannot be learned, except over the course of many many lifetimes. In any case, all mysteries have been unveiled and published in these "end times": the end of the old Cycle of Time so that the New Cycle may be born. But only wise seekers will find.

Food for thought: At the ~15 minute mark, Marvin Minsky unwittingly begins a discussion that's essentially isomorphic to the Hebrews 12 passage on Communion of Saints: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3qTf4uKp7hohtksi=3jAPZ21I4uh_d04O Make of it what you will, but I think Minsky's idea of "algorithmizing people" could form a solid concrete model for understanding Fr Teilhard de Chardin's abstract/mystical Cosmic Christ
