I have the same rig as you but with a P6K. I bought that same v mount plate also, but when i try supply power to my BM 5" video assist monitor (using the cable that says monitor) it won't fit. One end easily fits into the 12v port in the monitor but the other end won't fit into the 12v port on the v-mount plate (instead its fits into the 7.2v port). Do you have the same issue also?

Akpe ododoru hi there, yeah I had the same issue. I ended up buying a suitable cable from my local electronics store - Jaycar. If you have one it might be easiest to go in and get it locally that way you’ll know you’ve got the right one before purchasing.

Hey mate, how important is the matte box for you to eliminate flares and use filters? I am going for a similar set up with my p4k and thinking about combing this swing away mattebox with xume magnet round filters which I can switch after swinging away, or simply the variable ND.
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I probably use the matte box for about half my shoots at the moment but pretty much always put it on for when I’m travelling between shoots to protect the lens a bit. As for the filters, it is handy to just drop the trays in rather than screwing and unscrewing filters. The setup you’ve suggested does sound like a really good solution though so I’d suggest going for it. The matte box is handy for in transit and for shaping the flares that you do want and blocking the flares that you don’t want.
@storyt.11105 жыл бұрын
@@ashley.caldwelldp Awesome thank you. just in case, can you recommend some budget drop in filters as well? Also, what is your solution to block flares when you shoot handheld/without the matte box? I mainly encounter flaring problems when I shoot with my vintage lense set (minolta) lenses, which loose too much contrast and sharpness when pointed the wrong way. got my sub. I also own the elmo II and single focus solution, so I feel our rigs can be quite similar
@seifenhasedreizehn40775 жыл бұрын
@@ashley.caldwelldp just received the mattebox. How often do you use the additional trays to block the light? :)
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
seifenhase dreizehn Awesome! I actually ended up buying two extra trays and I have three filters all up so one tray is always left blank and the other three trays have each of the filters in them permanently. That way I don’t have to handle the glass out of the trays and I have the blank for when I just want to use a single filter so there aren’t any light leaks from an empty tray slot. I mostly just use a single tray filter at a time because otherwise it can create some strange ghosting. But any time I’m outdoors that isn’t night time, I use at least one.
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
Story T. Sorry mate it looks like I didn’t reply to your question about the filters! I use the Formatt Hitec 4x4 IRND filters. I forget which strengths but I ended up getting three at varying levels from quite minimal to quite strong. Hope that helps! By the way I’m absolutely loving my anamorphic scope now with the single focus solution and the golden flares from the Kowa 16-H are a real treat.

I’m surprised that with such an expensive setup you are not using a speedbooster with the camera. You’re wasting so much potential. I personally cannot even consider a 4/3 camera without a focal reducer. Speedbooster with full frame glass is unbeatable. Native glass is a waste.
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
This is only one of the lenses that I use with this camera. I’ve got three different speed boosters that I use for mounting my other glass. I would have to respectfully disagree to a large extent though. The Olympus 12-100 is a beast of a lens and has an amazing focal range. The other benefit is that in some cases it’s handy to take advantage of the Bluetooth remote control of the camera via the app. As with anything though it depends on what use it has and personal preferences.
@TheFilmmakingChannel5 жыл бұрын
Caldwell Films I understand but how does native glass impact the Bluetooth benefits with the app? Do you mean focus? I have no issues with focus using the metabones speedbooster although I rarely use it. I’m too used to manual focus anyway.
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
@@TheFilmmakingChannel Yeah I've not been impressed with the focus via either metabones or viltrox adapters (which didn't work at all). I very rarely use autofocus as well but in some applications with lesser crews or if you're trying to operate remotely, the single AF function via bluetooth on the olympus lens has been handy. That's the beauty of videography and film, there are almost endless styles, preferences, fields, uses and applications for each.
@AustralianImage5 жыл бұрын
There are many advantages to using native lenses. First and foremost, you get a lens ostensibly designed for the sensor. Secondly, with the 12-100mm, you get very good image stabilisation. All these lenses will work without having issues with speedbooster firmware/compatibility issues. I use the old 4/3 lenses with my rig and the likes of my 14-35mm f2 lens or 35-100mm f2 can't be beat; these two are some of the best lenses that you can get.
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
Australian Image This is very true. I really wish I had a few more micro four thirds lenses but I’ve also got the Ursa so am always torn between buying more ef lenses that are compatible with both cameras or having more lenses specifically for the pocket 4K and my micro cinema camera. Either way the 12-100 does provide some very nice images, a great focal range and great stabilisation.

@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps mate. The long rails are really handy and that handle is adjustable forward and backwards as well as left to right so its really easy to get a nice balance for hand held shots. For the shoulder rig the weight of the shoulder plate and handles balances it out nicely with the big battery on the back so it's really comfortable. What sort of rig do you mostly use?

Having used it, what do you think of the Olympus 12-100? I have a BMPCC 4K on order and I am pretty sure I need a lens with OIS but can decide between this set up, or the Leica 12-60 or the Lumix 12-35 and then probably the Lumix 35-100?
@ashley.caldwelldp5 жыл бұрын
I'm a big fan of this lens. The focal range is incredible. The stabilization is pretty reasonable but I wouldn't say that it is anything exceptional. The only kicker with this lens is that it only goes to f4 which for outdoor daylight shooting or well lit indoor environments it is fine, but for anything outside of that I would recommend a native lens that goes to at least f2.8 like the mid-wides from panasonic or olympus.
