Is it easy to train to go up like a lanner, are they clever and learn to gain height easily?
@RobertWEiser-su8tp3 жыл бұрын
Need to fly them in a wide open spot void of places to land i.e. poles, wires etc. They can be difficult to train to go up, time and patience required, they are sharp little birds and a blast to work.

The moult offers a good time to tackle problems. Captive bred, chamber raised, parent fed birds are the worst. Shadow is a hard imprint, no fear, aggressive by nature, still gets that way if she spends nights in the mews. If she spends the night on the round perch in my office, she's golden. Trainer's Motto: Bridge What You See. Have Fun!

Wanted to add: hood training to the point seen in the video took me a week. By day 4, I was slipping the hood on her head. By day 6, I was leaving it on longer periods and trying various sized hoods, she never balked. Your's may do the same.

@@Zombie_Longwinger If you only have positive experiences, I'm glad for you! Well, better late than never... Kestrels seem to such little 'bombs' of energy! Nice to catch the hover, too. We have pair nearby, nesting in a church tower, but they seem a bit 'careful', perhaps because we have two pairs of Red Kites, and at least one pair of, I think, Common Buzzards. Delightful little guy, and they are so beautiful, in the bargain :-)

You kestrel really fly well. I my self still working on my Kestrel. He kept landing. It is difficult to teach him waiting on. Could you give me some suggestion on it.
@RobertWEiser-su8tp4 жыл бұрын
Try to fly in an area that is void of things for your bird to land, wide open spaces are good, no poles, no fenceposts, no buildings, no trees etc. To get the bird to take a pitch you might try flying in light wind for starters, cast him off the fist, as he goes up reward him for the effort, he'll soon figure it out i.e. going up means big reward. Have fun and keep him flying.
@muhammadafdal61174 жыл бұрын
@@RobertWEiser-su8tp Thank you so much Sir! your trick really helps My kestrel now could stay on wing for 20 seconds I tried to improve the duration tho... however, it seems he still did not understand to take a pitch. He just stayed on wing on repeated flight height.

@@muhammadafdal6117 Take your time, Kestrels can be slow to develop, keep in mind what you are wanting him to do is not typical Kestrel behavior so be patient. Falconers are teachers, teachers teach, let him develop into a good student. Windy days, within reason, are your friend.

Yes, cool bird, just getting her started really, but at times we must do what we should. The Harris' aka Witch is a welcomed sight, she's settling in, must feel like deja vu for her, we'll be banging bunnies again in not time. Beautiful Harris' hawk. The new GXP is a monster size longing, 1487 grams this morning, more than a few behaviors to reshape but we'll get there, keeping her indoors at night on round perch is helping considerably, weathering area all day, enjoys a good shower and bath, don't we all. Will get more videos posted as they present themselves. Thanks for the comment.

Keep your Falconry or Rehab license current as Kestrels like all raptors are protected species. Good he's eating well, good food is critical in recovery, hopefully the wing heals so you can cut him loose to terrorize the world once again!
