Such a fine performance and song. I love the way the chorus comes in unexpectedly soon.

Great voice but basically a very good pub singer. No originality. I remember Freddie in the the seventies and eighties when he was being hailed as the next Irish messiah folk singer. Never happened.

Walked into the Baggot Inn in Dublin, 1979, a suburban kid trying to figure out the real world and watched Freddie play this. Many years later, in Sydney, still listening & still smiling at the memory of how beautifully you took this piece of poetry & changed my life.

J'ai eu la chance de le voir en concert à Bruxelles dans les années '90 (il était en première partie du groupe irlandais Patrick Street). Une belle découverte et j'avais acheté le cd avec cette chanson.

Saw Freddie White at the Trinity Ball, Slough library and so many other places. Loved his guitar playing which still drives me crazy trying to figure out how he played those songs. Still have his cassettes though!

Saw Freddie for the very first time in the Glentworth Hotel in Limerick in 1978. Used to go everytime he played the Belltable. Great voice and a fantastic live performer making the songs of others even better. I learned this by heart and it was my go to sing song piece !!! RIP Guy Clark and Freddie is still going strong.

Like both versions. Guy Clark wrote it and sang it in his style. To me Freddie's version is more vocally passionate and his musically blues version takes it to a different plane.

Great, thanks! I had forgotten about Freddie White. i saw him in Cork twice in the late 70’s ... once was by accident when a supporing act couldn’t make it, and he stepped in last minute. He would come on with a towel around his neck to cope with the perspiration that his enthusiastic performance produced. I particularly loved this song.
