Goddam but I Love Ida Lupino... She is truly one of the great Film Noir Icons. So happy that her oeuvre as an Actress and Director are being Recognized and Exalted by todays Cineastes.

I grew up watching wonderful movies like this as a kid, but know it people, most of the actors singing in these movies weren't really singing. Their voices were dubbed. This is no exception. Ida Lupino was not singing this song. It was dubbed. The true singer was Peg La Centra.

Doug Noakes, Thank God for that. Why anyone even remembers BH I'll never understand. I did buy a couple of her records because I had been led to believe that she was something special, but I no longer have those records. One listen was more than enough.

world (being a poor, insecure black woman singer on the road) & awful boyfriends & easily exploited, vulnerable. That music is perfectly sublime.

It depends. Billie had 3 sections to her career, The 30s into the early 40s, The 40s into the early 50s, Then the last part, the 1950s. The last part, the 50s, she had lost her voice... only her timing and emotion are intact. I can’t listen to her from that period. Her voice was wrecked from years of abuse. Her middle period is cool... but she had def settled into her STYLE of singing. Her early years ...the late 30s into the 40s... are GOLDEN . Her energy, her clarity, her collaboration with her musicians, her phrasing, her emotion... FANTASTIC.

After hearing her true voice singing in "Roadhouse," I have to think not.
@marileesteele18044 жыл бұрын
No, it’s dubbed, she’s acting like she’s singing (between kinda awkward cigarette drags & a swig). Did she smoke, cause it seems not? Truly accomplished, extraordinary polymath, multi-talented working (quite beautiful) woman in a contrived world of mostly ditzy glamor presided over by mostly male studio super-egos (all the power, glory & money). Gave a lot more than she got. I love Ida.
