I used to be in a band with him, he would learn songs right before practice and it would take him 1 or 2 listens tops. He's easily one of the best drummers I've ever worked with

Sick drumming! Btw I don't think the lights on your mixer should light up every time you play the respective microphone. I think you're hitting the limit on your preamps, try lowering the preamp volume to avoid clipping :) Have fun drumming!
