The Monarchy is alive and well. People know it represents the foundation of the English nationality more than 1000 years ago.

Were do you find security ?? Where do you find passport control for leaving and entering ??
@TimAlcoser
@TimAlcoser 10 күн бұрын
Security and passport control is done before this video starts. I would have included both in the video if I was allowed to film in those areas. What's cool and unique about Eurostar is the fact that you go through passport control in London before boarding the train. There are French border agents stationed in at London St. Pancras, that way you just walk off and go once you arrive in Paris.

So they saved the structure, but the interior is saturated with smoke, and probably will have to be gutted and replaced.

There was a light smell of smoke in the house when I came back, but it has since largely gone away. The damage may not have been as bad thanks to the four air purifiers I had stationed strategically around my house. 🤷

The railroad branched off in different directions as they logged sections of the forest. One section ended up not too far from Cherry Lake. The Forest Service later turned some of the abandoned railroad beds into roads. There was another logging railroad that ran out of Jamestown called the Sugarpine RR. It is not the Sugarpine RR over near Yosemite. One section of that Railroad ran up past where Lyons Reservoir is now, and ended up near Strawberry. Another branch went down into the canyon where the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River is and crossed over the river where Beardsley Reservoir is. You can see the railroad cut into the granite on the southside of the the canyon and it intersects the dam. On the north side of the dam, the railroad bed climbs to the west and is now Forest Service Rd. 5N02. I'm not sure how much futher up into the mountains it went, but I read that RR laid over 400 miles of tracks from Jamestown up in. the mountains. Another neat logging railroad is the Yosemite Valley railroad that ran alongside the Merced River. It ended about 10 miles west of Yosemite Valley. To get to the forests up high in the mountains, they built tracks straight up the mountainsides, which are very steep, built big concrete buildings with giant winches inside, and used big cables to raise and lower the flat cars up and down the mountainsides. At the top, they had rail lines running all over the mountains, and had locomotives bring logging cars to the top of those steep grades, where they would be hooked up to a cable and lowered all of the way to the bottom of the canyon. They would then put together a train and run it down the canyon to Merced Falls, where the sawmill was. You can still see where they laid the tracks going up the mountainsides, and the railroad itself followed the Merced River all of the way to Merced.

I noticed a couple of steps into the camp store. Did you happen to notice if there was also a wheelchair ramp into the store. Also please share your general observation of HK camp being wheelchair accessible.
@TimAlcoser
@TimAlcoser Ай бұрын
It's mostly wheelchair friendly, but there are a lot of uneven areas around the camp. According to the NPS Website on Housekeeping Camp: "All lodging facilities in the park meet accessibility requirements. Select lodging units within Housekeeping Camp are accessible, with a nearby accessible restroom. Designated accessible parking spaces are available. The laundry, shower, and grocery store facilities are all accessible".

Do a lot of bears go through HC at night? Or even during day while cooking? What do you suggest for bear protection?
@TimAlcoser
@TimAlcoser 2 ай бұрын
There are a lot of bears in Yosemite. They are Definitely scared of people, but highly attracted to our high calorie food. For this reason, they almost exclusively come out at night when people are asleep and it's quiet. I have only seen bears farther into the forest during the day and at night in places like HC. I also live in the mountains and bears come down to try and raid the trash at night but tend to shy away during the day. My bear encounter at HC about 20 years ago was my first time seeing a bear in the wild and my reaction to it was to chase it away to which it tucked tail and ran. I don't think you need any kind of protection against bears in Yosemite outside the basics. If you see a bear, keep a safe distance and enjoy. If it approaches you or your camp, make loud noises, look bigger by waving your arms and throw small pebbles at it while (in the forest) backing away slowly while facing it. In fact, it's such a minor issue that bear Spray is in fact illegal in Yosemite. The only place I've carried Bear Spray is in Yellowstone. As you probably know, brown bears are a completely different matter than the black bears here in California. The only exception is a black bear mother and cubs. I tend to treat that situation as if it was a brown bear. To be fair and thorough though, there was two bear attacks in Yosemite so far this year, neither of which were fatal. Rangers constantly patrol the canps in trucks at night looking for bears and responding to calls or sightings. If you do get to see one, it's quiet the experience that you'll always remember.
