The author of "Bleeding Stubs" is donating to schools in Africa and Asia to study Lord of the Rings as a classroom text. How selfless for the new author, Besong, to remain a fan of Tolkien. When I heard that, I immediately read Bleeding Stubs, the best writing I have ever read from an African author. Amazing.

He's made great movies but changing the story really downs it's potential, like an artificial version of the real thing. Or like those who changed the story in the so called Bible, they messed it up. Another one is like the Movie Warcraft, good movie but could have been very great because they changed the story. Therfore the viewers can't truly feel it as an original. Thank you Peter Jackson and your team for creating great movies.

I know I’m gonna get attacked for this, but my intro to Lord of the Rings was from the awesome movies!!! Don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge Tolkien for creating Middle Earth, but I feel that the movies are more accessible to me and easier to keep up with (and that’s not an easy thing to do when the trilogy as a whole is approximately 12 hours long!!!). Nevertheless, I thank Tolkien for making Middle Earth and the stories that he wrote!!!!

Hey, I dedicate my first fiction publication to JRR Tolkein's fans who encouraged me: I have published a short fiction story of the rare type, Bleeding Stubs (set in Cameroon, it is a funny genre of military espionage). Please check it out and recommend it to your ans and friends.

Our magazine loves your humility. We have to accept that we have learnt a lot from the West. I must say your style is unique, and the setting is different, so I hope you get more readers so you can sponsor our Asian and African language research.

Love Neil, his brothers, Crowded House, etc. Different placements of songs used in a movie pay different amounts of money, depending on when they’re used. The song that runs at the end as the credits roll earns the best rate and the biggest payout. Musically, this is a wonderful little song, appropriate for fairies and hobbits and such. The only criticism I have is that it’s drenched in reverb! Not at all what one would expect if the song was prepared to play on radio. There’s a couple of Beatles releases that were redone to remove all the Phil Spector “Wall of Sound” mixes he was famous for that are drenched in Reverb and it’s very interesting to listen to the two versions of those songs.

Can nybody direct me to this short masterpiece? I'm looking for a DVD for few years now, ale there's nowhere to be found. I even check for "online versions" ;-) of it, but there is no single seed, only leeches with 50.1% of the material. I watch it whole in Aircraft Museum in Cracow in Poland and since then I'm looking for it. I'm obviously happy to buy an original DVD.

A truly wonderful video - thank you for posting this. I have learnt so much more about Tolkien's life over recent years, and I now have a greater understanding of just where his inspirations and his comments about life and society, especially about industry and commerce come from, and this helps with a greater depth of understanding each time I read the LOTR trilogy or the Hobbit. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the style of speech we hear here is not dissimilar to JRRs, but tempered with a touch of the Paul Whitehouse's Rowley Birkin character from the Fast Show.

When all boiled out and condensed Tolkien appears to use "The Machine" and thereby Industrialization to mean the downside of the focus on materialism as a way to replace what God intended for us. Transitory, unfulfilling, requiring excess to renew satisfaction like a drug. It's good he didn't use his fantasy as allegory as strongly as C S Lewis or LOR would have been horribly tainted. First and foremost, Tolkien's desire was to entertain and do it through a believable world which didn't exist but used images and terms everyone understood.

The Lord of the Rings is wonderful storytelling but hardly literature. The language of LOTR and the Silmarillion, when we can finally find a less stilted portion of the latter, is uninspiring. It's better than JKR but nowhere near literature. Read a paragraph of the Brontes, for example, or of Ernest Hemingway, and then a paragraph of Tolkien, and it's like falling from the heights to a hole in the ground.

Judi Dench has such a beautiful speaking voice and it's so perfect for Tolkien. Nothing jars me more than hearing an American accent attempting to read LOR, they're great at Raymond Chandler, but not our English literature - the clue's in the name....

Mate same here! I’m 52, read his works from the age of 11/12, read them each year, aswell as all Sherlock Holmes as well as tv shows and movies ( yes I’m probably “fun” at parties haha. I’m glad there is others out there like us, my children all have read his works, they aren’t as possessed with it as I am, but they are much loved. Cheers from Australia

I have to say, the shots in the trailer had much much better colour grading than the final film. I first noticed it back when I first saw DOS the gold was so dull in colour compared to the bright warm colour the treasure was in AUJ

This is an exceptional documentary. I can't wrap my head around how one man could create such a world. A poetic manifestation of his life experiences and the human condition. I have ADHD and reading for extended periods of time has always been difficult, but I feel so captivated to read through the LOTR and uncover all the tiny ways the book differed from what I remember from the films and video games I've played. A timeless gift
