My older brother was a big Bernie Parent fan, and yes Parent was also a superstar goalie, so he would give me the gears about Dryden for not always having to face many shots. Yes, the Habs defence was simply dominant, but that made Dryden's job harder for he had to keep his head in the game. This is not easy to do. Him being such a cerebral goalie made it work.

I can't believe Phil stole this interview from Brent Leroy. "Look, I'm just out here well, down here tryin' hell, I'm tryin' my best. And for people to boo, I mean I'm disheartened and disillusioned. And let's face facts. Karen is a good player. And that's not to say I'm not out here givin' my 150%. But to boo?"

Thinking of this (kinda) of the women's Olympic team has been getting so much heat and might be ralling together to overcome the media/fan pressure. Canada has a press issue when it comes to sports Good on Vanessa Gilles to speak out similarly when getting interviewed. Go Canada

I have always had respect for Phil Esposito and was proud he was a Bruin. This speech gave me chills. Hockey is Canada and Canada is hockey. Phil spoke from the heart. So happy they won the series.

I’ll say it as a Russian. People in the Soviet Union laughed at this speech. In this spirit: “Look, just a day ago this guy was shouting with an arrogant look that the Russians would not score and would not win a single game.” Well, where is all this on his face now? Canadians do not fully understand what it cost the Soviet team to win against the NHL all-star team in Montreal, under the colossal pressure of foreign stands. The Canadians had their entire half-century of hockey history behind them. The stars of the past were probably present at the triunes, right? Maurice Richard, Elmer Luck, Boom Boom Geoffrion, and many others. And so (sorry) shit yourself at home. I won’t rant about who won and who lost. Hockey won! But it should be noted that in this series the Soviets showed that they came to play hockey, and the Canadians came to fight the “commies.” I don't care about Henderson's goal. In Russia, the symbol of the super series will always be 7-3 on the Montreal forum scoreboard.

Interesting to hear how it was for the other side. All we knew about the Soviet Union was the propaganda we were fed. Cheers

Here is a funny fact. I was born and lived in Toronto all my life. Never cared about or watched hockey until I was 20ish. The first game I happened to watch by pure chance was the Leafs vs Habs in the late 70's. This was of course when the Habs were like a hockey team of the Gods. OMG the Habs made the Leafs look like a team of geriatrics! Plus there was Gallivan! I instantly became a life long Hab fan.

My favorite athlete of all time. i'm 58 and have been playing sports all my life and with the exception of (American) football, i was ALWAYS #12, to this day, any jersey or sweater i get, regardless of team or sport will have #12 on it. I was born in Montreal, so, I had no choice (with 3 older brothers) I started playing organized hockey at age 4 and, of course The Habs have been my favorite team all my life. And like @mkraulis I went to his bar in Lachine (i'm pretty sure it was there, i dont know how many he had) my cousins lived a couple blocks away, the establishment was called "Cournoyers", i remember. that was over 40 years ago. What a thrill it would have been to have met my idol. Like Yvan, i was always small and among the fastest. Great memories. I just learned only one person has lifted Lord Stanleys cup more than Yvan's 10 times.
