$8 billion for an attack submarine? Sounds to me like we're becoming incapable of building any navy ship on time within a reasonable budget. Perhaps it's time to start thinking about having our allies build ships for us at least they can do it, over here We can't even find people who want to work in a shipyard....... pretty sad situation.

Every shadow fleet saboteur ship must take control if they even plan or try sabotage. Even try, not make to do it. At this moment china or russia cant take a risk at the new war. Nato is too strong for them. For anybody. So dont play messy games with us. ☝️

This is tornado supposed to do, not play games, by doing things like this NATO lives up to the reason why it was made in the first place, and if they can keep doing this they will be able to stay a force, they can stop wars, but from this point on they can't go backwards they only have they can only go forward.

As some others pointed out, NO ROMANIA IS NOT AQUIRING 300 ABRAMS TANKS. Romania has ordered through Government to Government sale 54 Abrams(M1A3R equivalent to Sepv 3s) to be a aquired and the schedule established so far meants we will start receiving them Mid 2026 and finish mid 2027. Romania WILL launch a TENDER (equivalent to a competition among different arms manufacturers) in which the AIM is to procure UP TO 300 tanks, though it will probably be an order of 200 with 100 later. The tanks/ companies that are expected to participate will be Rheinmetall with Leopard 2 A8 variants and Hyundai Rotem k2 Black Panther (thats the Korean MBT in case anyone is wondering). While the Tender has not been officially launched as of yet (5th of January 2025), the feeling is that the K2 is a favourite for wining because of better costs, better delivery times AND the fact that they are very open to Technology Transfer and local production on a scale that Rheinmetal has not yet matched. Of course, we need to wait for the Official Process to Begin, and if it begins on time (Late January to Mid February 2025) we can expect the result to be anounced somewhere in Mid Summer(June-July) to early Autum (August-september). However, the Romanian ministers and agencies are not know for their efficiency or deciciveness. So fingers crossed they don't fuck up ... AGAIN

Japan has no experience in exporting warships and their culture is 180 deg opponent to europeans! You should not under estimate this social cultural factor in Business! My opinion : if Japan wants to win the contest, it needs to be so cheap, They would bankrupt themselves.

Since a lot of you seem to be confused about the F126s size and armament choice, I’m gonna do my best to explain it in detail. First and foremost, the F126 is a class of frigate replaying the current generation of F123 ASW frigates in service with the german navy. Or in other words, it’s an ASW combatant. And its respective capabilities in all 3 dimensions (ASW, AAW & ASuW) reflect that. The ASuW capabilities of 2x4 Kongsberg NSM are standard issue with all upcoming german frigates. It’s ASW components are capable, even state of the art, employing towed sonar arrays and towed decoys as well as being able to operate 2x 10ton helicopters. But now to the main questions: 1. why does it only have 16 VLS cells and 2. why is it so large? Certainly justified questions if we would be talking about a normal modern warship but that’s not what this is. Point 1 has a relatively simple answer. 16 VLS cells seem to be very little at first glance given this is an ASW combatant, it’s AAW complex is actually quite heavy. Remember that this is not a destroyer and it’s AAW complex is primarily tasked with self defence. In total the F126s AAW complex features following AAW armaments: - 16x Mk41 VLS for ESSM IIb (quadpacked) for a total of 64x missiles (~50km range) - 2x21 RIM-116 RAM II CIWS for a total of 42x Point Defence missiles (~15km range) - 2x MLG27 4.0 SeaSnake CIWS/RCWS for point defence (~3km range) + the naval gun if you want to factor in air burst munitions That’s a grand total of 106x missiles for self defence which is more than adequate for the kinds of threats it will encounter. More on that later. Now to point 2, why is this ship so extremely large? Simply put there are two main reasons: automation and redundancy. Like many western navies, the german navy faces staffing issues. And one of the ways of circumnavigating this issue is by employing heavily automated vessels that need fewer crew. And Each of these vessels has a standard complement of just 114 sailors wich is almost half of its predecessors 240 per ship. But automating ofc increases weight, size, cost and tonnage. And the redundancy part is where this class of ship differs from pretty much any of its international counterparts. The F126 is designed utilizing the so called „double island doctrine“ which was first pioneered on the F125 class of asymmetric warfare frigates. These F126 comes with 2 sensor islands fore and aft wich can operate 100% independently from one another. Not just sensors but also 2 fully independent CICs and countless multiple redundant systems. The machinery is particularly robust and long lasting, giving these vessels a deployment time of 2 FULL YEARS if regularly refueled at sea. These ships can stay on station for 2 full years without returning to port for maintenance. But all this redundancy ofc drives up weight and tonnage again, especially those 2 sensor islands. You should also keep in mind, that warships have become exponentially larger during the past decade. The average upcoming frigate of today brings between 4.000 and 8.000t to the table, while modern corvettes can go up to 3.500t. So yes, 11.000t is a lot… if we’re talking 1980s standards. And what you should also keep in mind is that the F126 is not supposed to operate alone in a wartime scenario. The german navy is currently replacing the majority of its major surface combatant by new classes of ships, the F126 replacing the F123 in the ASW role and the F127 replacing the F124 in AAW. F126 (of which 6x have been ordered) and F127 (of which 6x have been ordered and options exist for 2x more) will operate in tandem, splitting ASW and AAW to generate peak performance in their respective roles. The AEGIS based F127 in particular (starting construction in mid 2025) is the most heavily armed missile based warship of any european navy. Together this pair makes up: F126: - 16x Mk41 VLS for ESSM IIb (quadpacked) for a total of 64x missiles - 2x21 RIM-116 RAM II CIWS for a total of 42x Point Defence missiles - 2x MLG27 4.0 SeaSnake CIWS/RCWS for point defence - 2x4 Kongsberg NSM - OTO 127/64 LW Otobreda Naval Gun F127: - 64x Mk41 VLS for ESSM, SM2, SM3, SM6 for a total of 112x missiles (2-2-2-2) + tomahawk integration (The domestic IRIS-T missile family is currently being integrated into the Mk41 VLS with both the SLM (replacing the ESSM) and SLX (replacing the SM2) able of being quadpacked, giving a theoretical maximum of 160x missiles total) - 2x21 RIM-116 RAM CIWS for 42x point defence missiles total - MLG27 4.0 SeaSnake CIWS/RCWS for point defence - 2x4/4x4 Kongsberg NSM - OTO 127/64 LW Otobreda Naval Gun - SeaSpider Anti-torpedo-torpedo integration planned Giving a total of: - 176x (or 224x) VLS based missiles for medium range, hypersonic and ballistic threats - 84x RAM missiles for close in point defence - 4x SeaSnake projectile based CIWS for close in point defence - 16x/24x Kongsberg NSM anti ship cruise missiles - 4x NH90 ASW/utility helicopters That’s more firepower in 2 ships than the entire portugese navy. So yes, while looking at the F126 as a standalone platform, it seems oversized and undergunned. But that’s simple down to the class being a specialized part of a task force doctrine, not a standalone platform.

Quite a bunch of firepower agains Air Attack. This is a stand alone multi purpose ASW Frigate.... It does not need to defend carrier groups or convoys against Air Attack. This does the F-124 class now and F-127 in future.

This Dutch/German frigate looks like a lightweight compared to US / Chinese frigates, destroyers and Fighter carriers. And size and number of german ships and submarines still are nothing more than the minimum requirements of NATO community. Neither Germany nor Europe is able to reach a selfcontroled international powerprojection like USA and Russia posses and China builds up. Europe remains a dwarf in international power projection and can only give some contributions to NATO community as long Donald Trump does not abandon NATO community completely.
