I'm surprised safety and honesty was not on the list. I flew into Helsinki with my daughter. We hopped on the train from the airport up to Riihimäki. In Riihimäki, I left a briefcase with my computer, passport and a couple Christmas gifts on the train. The train left back to Helsinki before I got back to the station. I thought goodbye to that bag after 20 stops and thousands of people. My wife and a friend, both Finnish, were sure I would get it back. Sure, enough a week later at National lost and found I got my bag back everything in it. You will not get that in any American city I know. Also, women walk alone freely at night everywhere I know about in Finland. Puhun vähän suomea. Kun puhun suomea ihmisille Suomessa, he puhuvat minulle monta kertaa englanniksi. On sama kaliforniassa kun minä puhun espanjaksi ihmisille kuka puhuu espanjaa he puhuvat minulle englaniksi. Minä oli iloinen jos suomalaiset ymärävät etta minä puhuin suomeksi 🙂

A while back I experienced by far the worst illness I have ever had, spondylodiscitis (inflammation of intervertebral disc space) which led to sepsis. One week of ICU, an other one in the same good hospital, then two weeks in a city hospital (total hell hole), I lost something like 20 kg of my body weight, I left the hellish city hospital in a wheel chair after signing waiver of rights. Despite pain I felt joy and could walk short distances indoors after couple of hours.

1:06 The struggle to rest is so real. It might look like I’m lying down but my brain just won’t stop tapdancing no matter how much I beg 🫠 The canvas painting came out so pretty and adding embroidery is such a unique touch. Thank you for sharing! Also, hope you feel better.

Kaylee! After watching this I'm convinced that we're the same person lol. Everything you said was eerily spot-on to my current state as a creative person and to where I am on my creative journey. It looks like it's been two weeks since you posted this but I'm really hoping you're still planning to make a series out of them! I'm considering following your lead and making some videos like this too.

External validation is addicting, I definitely relate to that. Like, “please! my audience is out there, I just need to find them!”
@kayleecreates

exactly! it's also worth noting that it can be very exhausting to show your work to an audience who doesn't appreciate it... but finding one that does, no matter the size, is so validating <3

I had so many thoughts listening to all of it. I resonate a lot on the fact that making something no matter the reception but yes it’s such a slap in the face when you keep trying and the results are not the same. And there is no feedback and just your on brain trying to figure it out. And it’s humane to want attention at the same time you want just to oil your creative gears. Bottom line is, I feel you, A LOT. And I might be where you were last year right now and trying to do something not to be there. It’s hard but in famous words “you are on your own kid, but will face it, and make it”

Aww Doxy I feel you. I am sad to hear you are in a similar place.. I hope you can feel the hope of a brighter future full of creatively fulfilling endeavors! The darkness doesn't last forever, so make the most of the downtime you have.. I can't wait to see what you will make when you return! you are such an inspiration to me. also, I cry every time I listen to that song, when she says "make the friendship bracelets" 🥲💓💓

Hi Kaylee...how cold is cold in Tennessee? I'm a Finn living in Helsinki and last couple of weeks it's been little freezy in morning and whole day...between -10° - -15° and snowing TOO much. Now it's +3° and snow is melting but quite soon the weather is turning back to cold winter 😢. Last week in Lapland -39° was this winter's record so far... have a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🎁

It's between +3 and +12 right now, definitely pretty warm for December, but I'm used to it. We also haven't had any snow so far, but I'm hoping it snows at least once before it starts to warm up in March... I would do anything to have a proper cold winter like the one we had in Helsinki last year! But even then, I remember people saying it was a more mild one... so interesting! Wish you the best as well and Merry Christmas!

Helsinki way more than meets - Your eyes ! How do You know what language IS someomes - 1st language ? How can You tell who speaks Swedish - Estonian - Russian - or German / English ? The same IS with religion ! Even People may live at Helsinki - I am PRETTY sure that there is NO ONE - like at Nashville ! In Europe - usually The LANGUAGE - tells something of Your TRUE values in LIFE ! We say HO HO HO - to All These People - because IT takes alot of Time to get to know those - WHO are not born with Our values ! Like - One Q - Have You tasted salmiakki - or do You know what IS The National Sport of Finland ? Nobody surely knows answer to these at Nashville ?

OK, you did not get "psykologia" right even after listening to it. Letter p in "psykologia" _is_ pronounced, as every letter in every Finnish word always is. I'm surprised that you didn't know that. EDIT: I think you said "saippuakivikauppias" in the best way of them all.

Hahaha thanks!! In English there are a ton of unpronounced letters in words and P is a very common one, especially in psychology, etc. so thats why haha xD

Friendships in Finland are not about money. Nobody cares about how much money you make. It must be difficult to get your head around that fact coming from the most capitalist country in the world. However, the U.S. is only one country in the world despite what your media or government try to tell you. So I'm not blaming you at all. I'm just saying that you should have kept an open mind and acknowledged the fact that certain things are done differently in a foreign country. There really are no distinctive classes in Finland. There are no boundaries to who you can be friends with. If you like somebody's company, you can be their friend, no questions asked. You can be certain about one thing, he/she won't ask you how much money you make. It's irrelevant. Friendships are not based on money or class. Now that you know how things are done in the rest of the world, I welcome you back and hope that you make more Finnish friends who enjoy your company and vice versa. You know they won't judge you by something superfluous like wealth.

You can make friends. At 1st do NOT ask "How are you?". In Finland that means it and you will be a shrink.

I am an American and have lived in Finland now for 8 years. When I return to the USA to visit family it is shocking to see how low class Americans are. The most unattractive people. They dress shabby, their conversations are cheap and plastic and they seem genuinely unhappy and always pissed off at other people. Fat people all around me in public with fast food restaurants all lined up on streets. I am married to a Finnish woman and we have two little blue eyed daughters and we would never allow our daughters to study and mingle with American kids as they would be infected with the weird and uncertain behavior American youths have

The "so what" attitude is good to keep in mind when you get negative feedback or rolling eyes from others. When you get older the "so what" attitude will just get stronger and helps you with many different kind of situations. What if people laught at my idea or think that I am weird for doing something... "so what" 😄👍
