That cam likes gear and compression. Easy to over cam a 383.

@Moparmaga-16 жыл бұрын
tj25tj cool, I was lucky enough to get a 833 with my 383. I have a dakota r/t & am tired of the computer crap and electronic controlled auto. So since it already has a 3.92 gear 9.25 diff and some beefy suspension stock I'm going to attempt what Dodge should have done 1st off.
@Moparmaga-16 жыл бұрын
Hey what compression ratio is your 440 ? with that cam, do you want to be at least 9 or do you think a stock 400 could benefit with this cam, ill be running it with a manual trans. I guess I'm wondering if this is a good cam for raising cylinder pressure

What headers are you using?
@tj25tj6 жыл бұрын
I had stainless shorty headers - then had them Ceramic coated - to try and keep the heat down in the engine bay have sold the car since and miss it real bad!!

@tj25tj6 жыл бұрын

@leecrt9676 жыл бұрын
That's ok. Thanks for the help. I'm eyeballing a set of shorty headers on Ebay. Chinese made S/S. They look like yours. Have fun. P.S. Are you working on anything now?

Just realized today how you used the harley filter covers, Ingenious. Can you please tell me what type of filter set up you are using underneath. Would love to do a golden commando tribute. I can get the covers, just cant figure out what filter etc I should use. Thanks a bunch
@tj25tj7 жыл бұрын
I used a round standard filter and cut a 3mm steel top plate to cap it off with the threaded loc nut to hold the top cap down and then second nut for the air cleaner to sit on then you can adjust the height of the harley cover

I used the cch290nc in my 68 383 ran really good with that great rumble...all the mechanics at the dodge dealers were at the front door drooling at my roadrunner 2nd gear chirps (727)completed the program

Very cool, I just scored a 57-58 gold commando 2x4 intake and have a fresh 383 waitin for it, was thinkin of runnin a 284/484. Your eng sounds fantastic, I had a 440 a couple years ago, BIG exhaust, ported 906's, rpm intake, 850 double pump, Engle solid 270/546. 4spd & 3.23's , it was fun

I hope you did that cam in your 383,I had one in my 68 road runner 383 and it really rumbled nicely and made good power...very streetable with that reat mopar rumble shake rumble

you will need a stall, I didn;t and I should have 2500 is enough the engine will come alive a lot more and will idle in gear better

I do have a 2200, and a 3500. still a long way off puttin it together so have time to decide what Im doin
@blah96647 жыл бұрын
doacarnage so you can run big cams with 3.23 gears and a 4 spd. that's good to know because I want either the ex274h(491)...ex284h(510) or ex294h(524) for my 383 motor. I want to keep the 3.23s so I can hit the highways when need be for out of town shows and what not. I know it will be a dog off the line but I'm not really worried about it as long as I can go further distances.
@doacarnage7 жыл бұрын
When it comes to bigger cams and stall converters I know 323 is the minimum. I ran 28" tires and when leaving the light I would get 1st gear over with asap, 2nd gear was where everything started to happen. 3 & 4 forget about it, feels like nascar with those tall gears. Anyway being a dog off the line is not how I would describe it. Your car will move out just fine.

Hey Slowmotion 4x4 , thanks for the comments. Got it wrong bud. I am running the rear as the main carb, I just pushed the front linkage as it was easier to press with a video camera in my hand. The pedal linkage is connected to the rear carb and progessibly moves the front carb. so its as it should be :)

Hey thanks Savoyman, my car was originally a 57 Savoy, the Christine bug got me so I have to clone it. yeah sounds good, the belt drive does the job, load enough but not to much. in the process of changing the cam to a 284/484 60's grind. will post when done thanks again
