Challenge system? I been playing for a week and this is the first thing I hear about it. My only take so far as a new player is that the game lacks some good progression systems so you can work towards something.

I know there is progression but I more mean some sort of cosmetic progression or game mode to unlock or something more exciting then seeing a number go up.

I never got the chance to play hunt showdown during its early days but hunt is the reason I switched to a PC. Never in my 24 years of gaming have a played a game with such good audio and yes the game is kinda difficult the first few weeks of playing but I currently have 900 hours of play time and I won’t be stopping anytime soon.

i love this gmae, played more than 600 hours. I joined after second map and leave after third was released. Idk why exactly, but I think that afk gameplay is so annoying. You know, when match was 60m limited in one match we came to the boss banishing and heard shotguns with concertina in all holes. And we just wait more than 50 mins without any peaks from enemy team. It was so stupid and sad coz we can't push them and they don't want to peak or escape, they prefer burn without any actions.

I've been playing since it first released on console in... 2018 or 2019 ( I can't recall). Overall, I think Hunt has had net improvements in gameplay and general user experience. My biggest complaint is how Crytek has leaned into using FOMO and monetization to generate engagement, which both feels bad, and can have a negative impact on player count (ie. burnout). It's not as aggressive as COD, but Fifield's history with COD definitely is bleeding into the game. Their recent mega-nerf on poison against Immolators is pretty tragic though. Luckily, the devs listen pretty well to much of the community's feed back, so these complaints are largely mitigated to cosmetics rather than core gameplay. Looking forward to the upcoming update.

@barszr

This game has amazing setting, extremely good and satisfying gunfights, great lore and atmosphere, but Crytek got extremely lazy in the last couple of years because there is no direct competitor to Hunt. Up until recently when community blown up about devs extreme lack of communication and acknowledging problems Crytek ignored 95% of the feedback from the players, and 5% they listened was from people who are complete casuals and have no idea what they were complaining about because it's easier to cry for changes rather than learn how to adapt/counter things. Throughout the years they had very questionable decisions and ideas, some fun, some horrendous. For years there was close to none new content besides some minor differences in events; Desalle was introduced YEARS ago, Scrapbeak was introduced YEARS ago, Rotjaw is not a main boss, up until recently gator was pretty rare to find and in general it's not worth to look for it unless you desperately need restoration (just some exp and 100 hunt dollars for killing it is pretty bad reward if you ask me). So people are in 100% right to complain about lack of content. The only things we got consistently were some new weapons, variants and a ton of special ammo which btw will be removed for some weapons... But honestly, as far as I am a huge fan of new guns you still rarily ever see them in highier MMR games as people run Mosins and Dolches mainly all the time. About cheating problem - up until late 2023 I rarily ever called anyone a cheater in this game, nowadays it's basically impossible to play one session without sus opponents, what changed? People realized that it's safe to cheat, so the population of them grow. I have a list of steam profiles of people who were blatantly cheating in my games - none of them were banned, they play till this very day regardless of the amount of reports they got (even through Hunt website with a video clip as a proof) and their whole comment section being full of calling them out for cheats. There are (and always have been) a lot of people playing with ESP/Wallchack but they are good in hiding it, so without spectating them you would never know that they're cheating (Thanks to Huuge more people became aware of that and started spectating at least their own games after they died). Additionally, there is a bug that you can create your Steam name with special characters so in game no one can click on your name and report you - life hack how to cheat without getting reported, or there was an extra option to find a file in the Hunt folders which after pasting on the outside website showed you a full list of players who were in certain match - Huuge talked about this file and that thanks to it he was able to get ton of people banned with a Crytek representative; Crytek removed it as "players were concerned about their privacy", yeaaaaah, more like cheaters were concerned that their profiles were again accessible and they pushed devs to make this file go away. Crytek may say that they check reports daily but I honestly don't believe that at all, tho recently as the issue became very serious they hired their fair play task force so we'll see how this all will work in the near future and if anything will change in this matter. Another thing with cheating are chinese players flooding EU and US servers, a lot of them are cheating, blatantly cheating, shooting through walls, often using aimlock/aimbot. I cannot count how many times my team was the only EU team in the match in prime hours, remaining 3 were all chinese, heck, I've seen 3 random chinese being matched together in trio randoms so many times... To end this paragraph and topic let's be honest - even if Crytek would ban every single cheater, this game costs 5 bucks on sale on steam or 5 bucks in general on outside websites, so cheaters will just buy new accounts and continue to cheat (those who got already banned are doing exactly just that). Ping abuse - Crytek refused for years to adjust ping limit even tho they promised they will do it if needed when they implemented it. Outcome is explained in the paragraph above. Community - the too posivite community licking Crytek's balls for years is the reason why devs didn't care for so long and didn't feel pressure to wake up and start doing more; regardless of how bad things were reddit and discord were always pro devs and you were immidiatelly downvoted (often also banned) for any constructive criticism or negative feedback. Crytek has a dozen of community managers who do nothing besides banning people from discord or reddit; replece half of them with actual devs and actual new major content could be easily added at least every 6 months. Crytek partners - streamers - are prohibited from addressing issues so you have an army of content creators who aswell show no assertiveness. Big shoutout to Huuge here who stayed with his principles and even if often his criticism is very close to be over negative/hate, he always points out mistakes devs make. Lack of balance - meta that never change: long ammo, avto, dolch, nitro - average loadout in every single 5-6 star lobby, or 6 duos (in a trio queue) with one mosin iron sight and one sniper rifle in each team - 30 minutes of no shots fired at the compound - yeah, very, very fun games ngl... Tho I was very close to drop this game completely, there is a small light at the end of the tunnel thanks to recent devs updates about region lock, ammo changes, fair play task force; but I'm not giving them benefit of the doubt, I've been dissapointed too many times to blindly believe in everything Crytek says, so I'll believe when I see with my own eyes.

I like the “1,000 hour tutorial” personally because I’m an adult who doesn’t need to be spoon fed every single detail to figure something out. Learning how to play has been half of the fun for me and if it didn’t have some degree of complexity I would be bored and frustrated with it in minutes. People just won’t spend the time to get good at something and then make it out to be everybody’s else’s fault.

I have over 1200 hours in hunt. I played it off and on from the pre early access alpha play test up until like 2023. 2023 is when i put the vast majority of my hours in. and idk. It just feels so unpredictable. in a bad way. I can not tell you the amount of times I will lose 10+ games in a row. Drop from 5/6 star down to 3 star. The game just feels weird. Like why am i suddenly getting nonstop bad team mates, bad luck, bad hit reg, etc. etc.? it makes no sense. I regularly destroy lobbies and yet like clockwork the game will decide i am done and force me into 3 star for a week. Then it stops like clockwork and within 2 games I am back up to 5/6 star. It is an endless cycle and it feels intentional at this point with how regular and predictable the cycle is.

4.5k hours in Hunt, and I agree with everything you’ve said. Thank you for putting the spotlight where it needs to be. I proudly spend money every check or every other check for this amazing one-and-only game. Why do I keep playing after all these hours? Because it’s fun. Nowadays it’s rare to find a game where the Devs admit when they messed up and communicate to the players on how they should fix it. Sure, some of the Community can be toxic, but the most of us share this passion and as long as we have each other this game will continue to be great. At the end of the day, I can boot up the game without being forced to sweat my heart out and just.. have fun and get away from reality. That’s a rare phenomenon these days so I cherish every moment of it!

As a gamedev, i love this video. It touches a lot of issues people dont often realise especially the small development size of the game. It takes a while to get content because it takes a while to make! I may not work on hunt but i know why it's so slow sometimes. I hope trials comes back in some way. A horde mode would be really fun, but the lack of other modes is both bane and benefit. I think two pvp modes is enough with the small playercount but for pve enjoyers, and casuals, they could really benefit from something to attract those players, espec during off seasons where playercount is so dreadfully low.

I do enjoy the events but miss the game as it was before they had them at all sometimes, and the way it feels between events. I've been playing since EA but really only picked up playing super regularly once it hit 1.0. Love the game and will probably stick with it regardless but sometimes things like bugs sticking around forever or certain changes can be frustrating.

Okay i bite, also because you're a small channel so let's it the algorithm a bit. I'm what other can call a veteran.(1700 hours of playing here ) I'm here in the game since 4 years and a half i guess but i took a pause for the 6 last months. The event after event phase put a bit of stress to me because i like to finish these one. I didn't even realise it prior my hunt pause to be honest. i ve was just not having that fun so i drop before my view of the game would have changed too much. Now i think that i can change my approach to the game to enjoy it again, and frankly, i miss the game. I'm also very hyped for the new map; the last new map (Desalle ) was a long time ago, but it was my best memories of the game so far. Like, we where discovering the new map altogether, noone knew the good spot, where to go and all the right angle, the little hole in the wooden wall : ) It was so refreshing and i wanna experience that again so i need to be prepared for that. Also 6 months without reading anything about hunt, i should have stuff to learn (and old stuff to relearn maybe) before the new map, right? PS: i concur that the dev are one of the best devteam i've saw. They don't always adress the issue quickly but they adress it nearly all of the time nonetheless.

Hunt Showdown is by and large one of the best video games I have ever played. but the Developers won't do anything with the gold mine they're sitting on. They could be introducing new maps, new game modes, new styles of events, different boss mechanics, changing the way bosses move, think, and attack. They spend all their time on these mediocre events that last 2-3 months, and are basically carbon copies of the event before them. The game is getting stale, dead, and boring. There is no player retention because there is nothing to retain players. Everything you can do in the game you can do within 25 hours of playing the game. You can see every map, boss, challenge, and most PVP encounters within your first 100 hours of the game. There's nothing to work towards except for prestige. There's no mode to play to casually enjoy the game. Soul Survivor is fun, and it's considerably more casual than Bounty Hunt, but even then, it gets boring after a few matches. Soul Survivor also has the big flaw of what seems like no SBMM. I've encountered every variation of player from 2 star all the way to 6 in Soul Survivor. Which, I suppose, is a way to teach players early that the Bayou is unforgiving and you're not going to win every encounter. If the developers stopped putting so much time and energy into deciding what the next event is going to be, and began putting that energy into developing new and exciting reasons to play the game I feel like they could easily pull in more players. Imagine a team deathmatch set in Lower DeSale, or the Fort, or even the Prison. 2 teams of 5 compete with random respawns, first to 50 kills wins. Combat is half of the reason I personally play this game, and I know from experience that's the reason other people play the game as well. Imagine a hostage type game mode where you compete in teams of 3 for a VIP that's being held hostage in the Boss Lair. Your team gets extra experience for extracting the high value target, which adds an even bigger target on your back and an even bigger reason for people to want to fight over the Boss Lair. What about a hide and seek style game mode where you play at night, and just like soul survivor, you can see one target in dark sight, but its their job to keep themselves alive until the time runs out. I know these aren't the best ideas, but after playing the game for nearly 600 hours, its gotten stale, stagnant, and repetitive. In my experience, you can guess what is going to happen in a match before the first boss is even banished. If a team spawned on the boss, 9/10 times they're going to get the bounty and immediately high tail it to extract. If a team did not spawn on the boss, 9/10 you're going to run halfway across the map just to get there as the boss is banished, you're going hope that another team engages them so you can sneak in and third party, and even if you win the fight for the bounty, you're going to hope that your team isn't the next on the revolving door of third parties. If you're the team that spawns on the boss it becomes a waiting simulator where at lower ratings, there is a 50/50 chance on whether or not another team comes to fight. tl;dr: this is a very good video game and I genuinely want to see it flourish, but the developers have gotten comfortable with the update cycle they release. Without any real competition for the game, or any reason for the developers to innovate, the game is going to continue on a downward trend until it fades into irrelevance.

I've also been playing since beta and have had a love hate relationship with the game. There are things that I miss from old Hunt - gun sway, death being a greater penalty, bloodline progression with guns. There are also some things that were really a hard pill to swallow for me... mainly the addition of special ammo and MMR ranks. I miss cleaning my weapons with randomly found gun oil and I miss dlcs that gave you not only skins but also bloodbonds... speaking of bloodbonds they were WAY easier to grind just a few years back. With all that said - I've came to peace with the game. I've realized that all those changes are trying to not only make the game more accesible but also clean and fair. I remember that when I was starting playing Hunt, I was so scared of encountering people that I just ran to a compound, killed a few zombies for xp (the best advice I've had at the time was that armoreds are killed best when you shoot their legs) and exited. Even though that might be the expirience some players have even today - I'm glad that the game is recognized, there are tutorials online and anyone really doesn't have to feel discouraged when they get shot by some rando bushcraft hunter from who knows where. I'm glad that we get to see balance patches, events, lore and new guns that acctualy blend with gameplay pretty well and aren't inherently op for a first few weeks. The gameplay has changed drasticaly... for the better!

I play this game since the absolute beginnings of it, even when it was still closed and the content was so limited that you could actively request weapons and other changes in the discord from the devs. Although I sometimes get a bit melancholic when I see some older Gameplay clips I recorded back then in the background and wish back the „old days“, I still have to say that the game has overall developed really well. In my opinion, I feels greatly different now when compared to its early stages, but the inclusion of events and the comparatively good decisions of the dev regarding community wishes have given good new ways to play the game. My only criticism is that the changes definitely made the game less hardcore over time, but then again,the balancing really also helps to open up the game to newer players, which will keep it alive. However, I still think that the game should remember its roots and not become too mainstream, as this is also part of the appeal
