I was assigned to the 37th ARRS from Elgin AFB in January of 1970. I was the crew chief on H53 364 after it arrived from the states. The H3's were eventually replaced by the H53. My helicopter had 6 saves during the time I was there.

It has always amazed me how the U.S. allowed Vietnamese civilians to wander around their bases. At our base at Nui Dat, Phuoc Tuy was completely forbidden to Viets.

I thought most of the music was good and brought back some good and some shitty memories. I got to Danang on 19 JAN .68 - just in time for TET. I was assigned to the 366 TRS. Our hooches were in the same compound as the Jolly Greens.

I was 17 years old when I got to Vietnam-1966 through 1969 (My mom had to sign a waiver for me), You could not be drafted under the age of 18 but you could enlist with parents’ signature. I grew up fast and learned a lot, good and bad. (I am now 73 and still learning). I was stationed on the USS Providence (Navy) and also stationed in Country at a place called "Monkey Mountain" close to DaNang,. I spent 3 tours of duty in and around Vietnam. 3 of my high school friends were killed in Vietnam, I was spared. I participated in the TET Offensive in Feb 1968, that was bad. Somewhere along the way I was exposed to Agent Orange (Nasty Stuff) I am now on disability for the effects of agent orange. When I was discharged and came home to the States we arrived in San Francisco, and there were a lot of protesters spitting on us and throwing rocks and eggs and called us baby killers. That was our welcome home. I tell you this to say to you, that whatever your position is or was on the Vietnam war, it was not the veteran who got us into the war, most of us went because we were patriots and loved our country. Blame the politicians, yes, but not the veteran. To all Vietnam Vets out there, you are not forgotten. As a previous combat Vet myself, I salute you my friend. ***

I wish to thank all VietNam vets for their service. I had 2 brothers who went to 'Nam, one from '66 to '68, and the other from '69 to '71. The years are approximated here,as at the time I was a little fart in grade school. My older brother's unit rotated out of Da Nang at around the time of the TET Offensive. He was also at Monkey Mountain and Cam Rahn Bay.It wasn't til the mid 80s when he actually talked about the war. I am proud of all you guys!

Those same people that spit on you were the future Democratic leaders of the country. Those same people who hated the country and led to its current state of affairs. People like Hillary Clinton, Robert Reich and sold the country down the river for a life of comfort. The American people are beholden to the Chinese and the world is turning against them unfortunately

I have a Vietnamese friend from Hanoi who’s father was conscripted into the NVA. The father is the same age as you but I do not know what years he served but probably as a young man just like yourself. He has revealed very little to his family of his experience other than it was terrifying and saddening to watch so many of his friends die needlessly. He holds zero animosity against the US servicemen he fought and two of his children are now US citizens.

As a Vietnamese American living in the US, I sincerely thank the American soldiers who served in VN. We, the South Vietnamese, appreciate your help in fighting against the North Vietnamese communists who were backed by China and the Soviet Union. Thank you. The problem was the media at that was extremely bias. They only showed a few bad incidents that were done by a few American solders but they did not show any good things . They didn’t show the horrible things done by the enemy (VC). The majority of the people was misled..

I was stationed in Danang from 1966-1967 assigned to the 37ARRS as a crew chief on two different Jolly Greens. After assembling the delivery of 281 which was one two helicopters that made the transatlantic flight. It was destroyed in 1969 then assigned to Thailand Jolly Green. I had the honor to serve with CMSGT Joseph Duffy and Duane Hackney when they we're airman second class. After being discharged I then went through the Army flight school and flew dust off and Cobra gun ships. Did two more tours in South Vietnam and retired as a Chief warrant officer four in the US Army after 21 years.

September 1967 flew out of Danang en route to Taiwan on a C-124 Globemaster operated by the Arizona Air National Guard, taking off during a mortar and rocket attack on the airfield. The pilot and crew of the aircraft just wanted to get their large slow target the hell out of there ASAP. We concurred.

Maybe someone can educate me. How does destroying a foreign country, killing over 58,000 of our men help keep America free? Johnson and his cronies were making big money off that war. We wanted control of the resources, the oil offshore and the drug trade. I believe the Jehovah Witnesses have it right. We don't go over there but if they came over here I would be the first one in line and I would shoot them all. No one messes with America.

At least you guys were there. Went down to the recruiting station in 1972. Wanted to be an Airman in the Air Force, I was disqualified under a medical. Nixon was bringing people home, the war was winding down, they didn't need anybody. To this day I resent the fact they left me here! I was a young stupid crazy twenty-year-old kid that needed the military but for some reason God kept me out. You go in a crazy kid you come out a young man.
