It should be remembered that Osamu Tezuka himself called Akira Toriyama "almost too good" and "heir apparent". Tezuka-sensei was the original godfather of manga/anime, but Toriyama-sensei was the next one. Also worth noting that while Oda is a great mangaka and One Piece is one of the most highly regarded and popular manga/anime, no one has really called him the godfather of god of manga/anime because the level of influence and inspiration on manga and culture isn't on the same level as Toriyama-sensei.

Here is Gon problem. He was raised in a loving home as an exceptional child surrounded by normal people. He literally thinks he is great. He even says so, when he tells Mito "my dad left *me* to go be a hunter, so being a hunter must be incredible." Being a hunter must be the best thing to Gon, because he has an inflated sense of Value and doesn't view Ging as a bad person. Then, with Kite teaching him to be prepared for a situation and not make any needless sacrifice, like with the Fox bear. Kite represents Gons growth and sense of self. If Gon let Kite die because he wasn't strong enough. That means everything he thinks about himself is untrue. Accepting that he can't fix Kite and him thinking Kite died because of him = he is the same child Kite scolded all those years ago. Nothing has changed and Gon is not worthy at all. His entire identity is destroyed and that's why he throws away his life saying, "none of it matters, I don't care what happens" Cause nothing matters if everything before is true. The one thing that Gon doesn't realize is that Kite would have died whether or not Gon and Killua had tagged along.

I'll agree that Gon is not your average protag and I will not argue that mental health issue however he does seem to care about his friends and loves being a Hunter. His way of thinking is perfect for a master Hunter. In fact most Hunters portrayed in movies, comics etc. if they are not all out bad then they are somewhat ambiguous in their personalities but what good is a Hunter if he can't catch or kill his target. He chooses the right friends with the right skillsets to accompany him on his journey. He knows whats up and what he has to do in order to grow and get stronger. Unfortunatley he is still a kid who is ready and willing to learn about this dangerous new world because outside of a small Island, Jungle and single-mom type situation, he really has nothing else to draw from except experiences that are happening in the moment and this is serving to shape his personality. In terms of his morality and overall friendliness, Gon is a good kid who is looking for the best in people however if his naiveté and kind nature is taken advantage of, he will not hesitate to let you know you have crossed a line which means he has boundaries that should and that is healthy. He is basically giving you a chance to show your true nature, he even knows deep down how truly evil, dangerous and twisted Pitou/Genthru etc. were and was willing to take any risks to defeat them to avoid further casualties. So yes, Gon may be a bit crazy but he still holds true to the core functions of completing his mission as a hunter and does not kill innocent, honest and defenseless people. He does have a sense of purpose and justice however he will play jury and executioner if he feels the need which is what possibly unnerves a lot of people but I feel Gon was absolutley justified in taking out Pitou and Genthru and he did what "he" had to do to get the job done making him an extremely effective hunter in my opinion.

(Spoilers for Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho and Hokuto no ken) Unhinged means mentally unbalanced, deranged. So he is crazy for wanting revenge? For waiting for the bad guy to act like a bad guy in order to treat him like a bad guy? If that was the case then Goku is unhinged for killing the Red Ribbon Army, Yusuke is unhinged for killing Toguro and Kenshiro is unhinged for most of his story. I see nothing wrong with this. The way he treats pitou is completly justified, and all the other moments you show were the same. Sure a kid wouldn't normally act like that but if you take in consideration the world they live it's not that weird. You could argue that Gon is too young for this mentality but that a trope on shonen to have a very young protagonist that acts way more mature so is also not weird. Gon is not crazy, half you people would act the same way given the circumstances.

Gon is a very morally ambiguous child but I love that he's still written very much like a child. What made it clear to me is when he asks why Pitou would help Komugi after everything they did to Kite; Killua can actually tell pretty quickly that this was the case, because him and his family have been killing people for years, but Gon struggles to understand how someone can hurt his friends while also still having people they care about too. And it makes a lot of sense, as it would be a very difficult thing for a child to accept.

I don't agree. When Gon pulled up on Pitou, and Netero the King. Their initial opinion of the ants was that they were heartless monsters. But immediately after the injury of Komogi, they showed humanity in the way they acted. The way the King handled the girl with care, the way Pitou was so protective of her, and intent on saving her life. For Netero it was a shock, for Gon it was an outrage. He asked Pitou those questions to understand why the monster who killed Kite would do something like saving someone, even at the sacrifice of their themself. Gon was furious that a monster who killed someone he deeply cherrished would dare care this much about another humans life. It was a slap in the face for Gon because he saw Pitou as nothing but evil, he already had a reason to kill Pitou, he knew Kite was dead, and thats why when he saw Pitou it was on sight no matter what. So seeing the humanity Pitou displayed was frustrating, he couldn't overlook it, and decided to cling to the hope Pitou would save Kite in the end. The moment he lost that hope, Gon let go of everything. He fixated on doing the one thing he wanted at the moment with his entire soul, and that was killing Pitou.

But also take into account there was the Angel Breath card they had as an available option not to mention the fact that this video has also dislplayed that Gon was willing to sacrifice his own hands as well. I think that's the attitude that makes Hunters special. Ging has it too, man left his kid and never came back cos he loved the job. Gon is way more intense then Ging.

Gon also let multiple serial killers free or live in greed island when they kill a of lot people, even telling one of the spider gang member on how is it fair to cry about his friend death when they didn’t care about the people they kill. Gon was always someone that care for his own benefit and had this childish look on what is right and wrong as something beneficial or not to him. He didn’t even a bat an eye when he saw dead people in the hunter exam.
@KibatheMalinois8 ай бұрын
@@benderrodriguez6721 That's the nature of the Hunter game Greed Island. Also if you weren't taking notes, there were multiple unsavoury characters during the hunter exam. Do you expect Gon to be picking unnecessary fights with anybody and everybody. Let's also not forget how Pitou learned all about Nen. By casually opening Pokkles skull and probing his brain. That's much nicer
@KibatheMalinois8 ай бұрын
@@benderrodriguez6721 Just one last thing I think should be noted regarding Ging and the creation of Greed Island. Some of the people on Greed Island including a very strong criminal aka Razor aka dangerous criminal and murderer aka serial killer aka "are you getting my drift?" If Ging did not spare and utilize Razors very powerful Nen abilities then you would have no grounds to base a very significant part of your argument on, the sparing of the scissor guy just the same as Ging did for Razor, see the parallel in Togashi's work here? Oda from One Piece utilizes the same story telling mechanic but One Piece is basically a story of many parralells if you really look at it. A very good example of this would be the Alabasta and Dressrosa arc. All the plot points mirror up near exacltly, princess damsel in distress, country taken over by a warlord, luffy steps in, kicks said warlord's ass and onto the next arc. The very mechanics and layout of the game is as Bisky stated, to make Gon stronger and make better judgements and learn as he will make mistakes which can also translate to a kid who is making mistakes as he grows and will one day look back on those mistakes which will in turn make him a much stronger fighter as showcased by his adult form which completely decimated Pitou who even feared for Meruem's safety when it came to Gon's sheer strength. To complain about Gon's character is to stand against the fact that he could very well be exactly like Ging when he grows up who is also not the most popular Hunter in the association just by his personality alone, he could've been a bright charimatic kid too. Maybe Togashi intended for it to be this way but I actually really like Gon and Ging, the latter of which impresses me because he is the one person who can get under Pariston's skin and the only person Pariston actually hates. I believe Togashi has written Gon and Ging this way on purpose.

@ignerisviivii855110 ай бұрын
what ? nah mate, you're utterly wrong. Natsu is braindead but conceives friendship and justice as his main focus and driving principle. Goku seeks strenght above all, but, he also went pretty extensively in a philosophical statement when he fought freeza, where he specifically stated that he was a warrior that seeks to rectify , and vanquish the evil that freeza incarnates. Naruto went on countless philosophical monologues since he was a genin about fairness, justice, what is right, what is wrong, and he is way more wise than you give him credit for. Luffy is driven by a verbal admission to be the pirate king, but his driving cause for that main finality has never been stated, it has been hinted, when ace and sabo laughed when he revealed it to them when they were young, and it was said that this driving cause was the same as Gol D. Rogers'. Finally, for Gon, Curiosity is his driving principle, to a frightening extent, he cares not for morality, but cares deeply for his close ones.
