I did had a great time of seeing Norfolk & Western 475 back in September 23rd 2024, cool video you got of it hauling this Christmas Train Ride. Merry Christmas.

Beautiful videoing of the Christmas Train Ride being hauled by 1702 at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. There were lots of wonderful train excursions even on this year, like their beautiful Canadian Pacific 2816 hauling a excursion train from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Mexico City, Mexico.

That shop built whistle is one of Andy's best. It gives 425 quite a unique sound that hits the sweet spot in between Spine Chilling Eerie and Muscial Ecstasy

Kind of odd that 17 is down for a 1472 right now considering she was built in 2013 and only ran for 11 years rather than 15 like most steam locomotives. Nonetheless, I'm glad you still captured her alongside 85
@tristanrailproductions6 ай бұрын
@@shanewalters2565 No.17 was extensively used in service in the past 10 years... resulting in much needed maintenance, so instead of working on bits and pieces, it was decided to just take her out of service and just do a 1472 inspection early, aside from much needed work on parts, etc. She will be back, but in due time....
@willhorowitz88066 ай бұрын
The plan was to run her until 2026, but since we pushed her a little too hard we had to pull the plug early. Thankfully steam won't be gone for too long as our other steam locomotive "Prince de Leige" should be running by the fall if everything goes according to plan.

It would be far more prudent to spend money on acquiring N&W artifacts on display elsewhere, including the only existent Roanoke Machine Works engine-N&W G Class 305, displayed in Saltville. I think that most of the VMT board are social climbers who only care about the museum as a gimmick to lure tourists off the Interstate or BLUE RIDGE PARK WAY. “ Railfans are treated as if they are the unwashed (smell bad).” commented a serious Railfan who was once on the VMT Board. The museum membership are told “Theoretically, the membership can nominate board members.” At the membership meeting.Almost no museum members show up at the annual meeting because we are just supposed to sit there smiling at them. Otherwise, we should keep our mouths shut
@BillClarke-cn5lf8 ай бұрын
No one who knows anything at all about steam locomotives would attempt to restore this thing for cosmetic display, much less to operating condition. It was one of the ones scrapped when the N&W acquired 30 former C&O 0-8-0s that were two years old. Since the N&W was one hundred percent steam, all reusable appliances were removed before scrapping. These engines probably had serious boiler problems You used to be able to read the last time the reservoirs were hammer tested -1950 or 1951. They were probably selected for scrapping because they were in the worst shape-could have needed new boilers. They were also sitting for decades in the flood plain of the Roanoke River at the scrapyard.

i do have a plan on restoring her. i dont have the funds to do it today or tomorrow, but one day, ill take her from the VMT and set up shop somewhere to restore her to operation, or have her restored at strasburg since they do that stuff up there. 1151 is the last one left, and one day, she'll be traveling the east.
