What is make of planter?

Nice explanation for those who haven't done this. Only correction was the socket size is a 1 11/16" as has been pointed out. That's an unusual size not in many sets. I bought one at the local farm store for $10.

According to the local Kubota Dealer and the manual the bolt is 1 1/8" thread and the socket required is 1 11/16" I tried a 1 1/16'' and it wasn't even close. Great video!

Thank you. Yes the rocks can be a bit of a pain, however this particular planter moves them out of the way so it’s not too difficult when I’m using it.

I'm looking at one of these, but My question i ,since there's no hopper for fertilizer...How do you fertilize?
@mcallisteracres6557
@mcallisteracres6557 6 ай бұрын
I use a 700 pound hopper/spreader when I fertilize and Lime my fields. I till that in and then plant with planter.

Also, what do you think the machine weighs? I couldn't quite see what model Kubota you used - Do you think a BX23 could handle it?
@mcallisteracres6557
@mcallisteracres6557 11 ай бұрын
Your BX23 would be just fine to use the planter. It weighs a few hundred pounds but the hydraulics of the Kubota will lift it easily. I use it on an LX3310

Thank you for this video - I'm considering this planter and appreciate you showing us how it works. I also see you have rocky soil like I have here in PA. Looks like you planted spring 2023. It's November now, How did it do? Did everything grow? Did it meet your expectations? Were you disappointed about anything? Looking forward to your reply sir. Thank you

This was the Spring of 2023, and yes I have very rocky soil. I an at the base of a mountain so there is a ton of rock ranging in size of a fist to a football throughout my property. I have very similar soil to PA. I am only a few miles south of Gettysburg PA. The crops grew this year but we had drought like conditions all growing season so it wasn’t as good as 2022.. hopefully 2024 will be better. I absolutely love the planter. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made on my small farm. Thanks for the comments and I look forward to communicating in the future.

How do u keep deer, ground hogs and rabbits off of your plantings?... especially when they are small young and tender? Thx
@bmcallister4539
@bmcallister4539 Жыл бұрын
Great question. I put up an electric fence around areas I try and protect from deer. This does not prevent small animals from getting into crops but larger animals won’t go in. I also plant outside the fence with what could be considered “sacrificial crop”. It is usually cheaper seed and not something I plan to sell. Other than that there really isn’t much I do to protect the sunflowers. The corn is pretty hardy and survival rates with deer graze seem to be pretty high so far. I really don’t have a problem with the smaller animals at this point. I purchased the electric fence from Tractor Supply. The solar type system I use is very effective. The initial cost was roughly $150. I guess it depends on how much field you are protecting, but it works very well and is a set it and forget it system. Hope this helped and thanks for watching.

Thanks for the video. I have the RCR1872 but seems pretty much the same. May I ask the best way to lift the cutter and get it onto the jack stands?
@bmcallister4539
@bmcallister4539 Жыл бұрын
I used a floor jack to set the first two jack stands and then alternated to the opposite side. I just kept repeating this and adjusting the jack stands until they were maxed out in height but still able to be pinned in place so they were locked correctly. I just reversed the process to lower it.

In terms of that water sprinkler, how long would you leave it in one spot? Does it run from its own well source?
@bmcallister4539
@bmcallister4539 Жыл бұрын
The sprinkler does run off a well but it’s not dedicated just for that. I have 300’ of 3/4 inch hose connected to a yard hydrant that flows 60 gpms. The elevation of the sprinkle sends the water just over 100’ (50 feet to either side) I use my judgement on how long I leave it in one place before moving it. The soil is very dry this year. We have had very little rain. I only used it that day though because I wanted to get the seeds to germinate and not burn up.

Interesting video ...been looking for a planter. Can you plant seeds other than corns and beans with this planter? (i.e. melons, pumpkins, okra and squash) Thanks
@mcallisteracres6557
@mcallisteracres6557 Жыл бұрын
I have not tried any other seeds besides sunflower and corn. It is designed to plant corn and beans but with the adjusting wheel I would be comfortable planting a lot of other things. Pumpkin seeds, depending on their length may be a bit of an issue with consistency in spacing though if they don't land in the wheel just right.

I apologize for not seeing this comment earlier. I ordered it over the internet. There are quite a few places that carry it. It is a Field Tuff 2-Row Corn & Bean Planter For Tractor. If you google that there are many places that carry it in stock. I believe Tractor Supply and many stores similar to that have it ready for pick up or delivery. You can occasionally find them on Facebook Market Place as well, or another variation of it. Hope this info helped you.
