Sorry Ned, the rod is a tool. It's a simple extension of the body and mind just like wrench in the hand of a mechanic. Just like a pair of Jordan's on a pro basketball player. Nothing more. Fly casting is the same knack as popping a clutch, once you learn it, you are all good but that doesn't mean you are any good at it. The better casters realize the rod is a partner, not just a tool, You give the rod what it needs to play it's part, the rod gives the line what it needs, the line gives the fly what it needs.
